At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

Single-frequency continuous-wave laser based on the novel Er/Yb-doped composite phosphosilicate fiber

Optics and Laser Technology. 2022. Vol. 151. Article 108049.
Rybaltovsky A. A., Sverchkov S. E., Vel'miskin V. V., Przhiialkovskii D. V., O.V. Butov

Optical and laser properties of a new Er/Yb-doped composite optical fiber manufactured according to the “rodin-
tube” technique are presented. The fabricated composite fiber with a standard outer diameter of 125 μm was
single-mode at the wavelength of 1.55 μm. A Fabry-Perot laser cavity was manufactured on a 25 mm long fiber
segment using the femtosecond technique of Bragg gratings inscription. The resulting laser with an effective
cavity length of 12 mm generated strictly continuouswave single-frequency radiation at a wavelength of 1548.3
nm at room temperature (295 K). The key advantage of the studied Er/Yb-doped composite fiber laser is the
excellent temporal stability of the laser output without any tendency for self-excited oscillation mode at any
pump level.

Sandpile Cellular Automata with Manna Rule on the Chung-Lu Graph: Application to X Social Network
Dmitriev A., Kornilov V., Batienkov R., Lecture Notes in Civil Engineering 2026 Vol. 886 P. 249–255
Numerous studies have provided compelling evidence that the probability distribution of avalanche sizes follows a power law, and that 1/f noise is present in the stochastic dynamics of landslides. We present a theoretical explanation of these phenomena within the framework of self-organized criticality theory, proposing a discrete-time model in the form of a sandpile cellular ...

Неравновесное состояние в квазиодномерных сверхпроводящих каналах
Arutyunov K., Kharitonov I. A., Petrosyants K. O., JETP Letters 2026 Vol. 124 No. 6 P. 1–16
Superconducting properties of metallic micro- and nanowires can be entirely different from those of bulk superconductors. Of particular interest is the nonequilibrium current-induced state of a quasi-one-dimensional superconducting channel. The most interesting phenomenon here is the stepped I–V characteristic, explained by a process known as phase slip center activation. If the origin of such step-like ...

When universal machine learning models fail in capacitance prediction for carbon-based supercapacitors: Leakage-aware validation and electrolyte screening
Makarov D. M., Kalikin N., Fashchevsky K. A. et al., Electrochimica Acta 2026 Vol. 579 Article 150159
Machine learning (ML) has become a powerful tool for accelerating the development of carbon-based supercapacitors; however, most published models assume that a single predictive framework can describe both conventional porous carbons and hybrid carbon electrodes. Here, we test this assumption using a comprehensive benchmark dataset and an extended literature-curated dataset enriched with synthesis- and electrolyte-related descriptors. Three ML algorithms ...

Махлуф М., Ozhegov R., Elezov M. et al., Фотоника 2026 Vol. 20 No. 6 P. 414–423
This paper compares the ranging precision of direct time-of-flight (dToF) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) LiDAR architectures, both using a superconducting nanowire single-photon detector (SNSPD). Both systems operate at 1550 nm with a 50 ps pulsed laser and time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC). The dToF configuration achieved approximately 100 µm precision at 10 m, while the NLOS configuration achieved 500 µm precision for ...

Random lasing in a short Er-doped artificial Rayleigh fiber
Popov S. M., O. V. Butov, Bazakutsa A. P. et al., Results in Physics 2020 Vol. 16 Article 102868
We report on random lasing observed with 5-m-long Er-doped fiber comprising an array of weak fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) inscribed in the fiber core and uniformly distributed over the whole fiber length. The laser design ensures domination of dynamical population inversion grating over the FBGs in total distributed feedback enabling laser stabilization and nonlinear laser ...

Нечепуренко И. А., ACS Photonics 2018 Vol. 5 No. 12 P. 5038–5046
A pulsed regime of short-cavity, heavily erbium-doped fiber lasers is of high interest for its possible applications in telecommunications and sensorics. Here, we demonstrate and compare these lasers in two configurations, a distributed feedback laser and a classic Fabry–Perot-type laser. We have managed to create lasers that function stably with cavities as small as 50 ...

Intensity statistics in a long random fiber Raman laser
Ogorodnikov L.L., S.S. Vergeles, Optics Letters 2018 Vol. 43 No. 4 P. 651–654
We study the output emission statistics of a random continuous-wave Raman fiber laser. The signal evolution is governed by a generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) with inserted gain. The statistics are close to the Rayleigh one, and the deviations are caused by the Kerr nonlinearity. To characterize the deviations, we analytically find the mean of ...

Wave Kinetics of Random Fibre Lasers
Churkin D. V., I.V. Kolokolov, Podivilov E. V. et al., Nature Communications 2015 Vol. 2 P. 6214
Traditional wave kinetics describes the slow evolution of systems with many degrees of freedom to equilibrium via numerous weak non-linear interactions and fails for very important class of dissipative (active) optical systems with cyclic gain and losses, such as lasers with non-linear intracavity dynamics. Here we introduce a conceptually new class of cyclic wave systems, ...
