Стратегии «сохранения лица» и успешность делового взаимодействия
Nowadays the efficacy of business communication represents one of the most important factors of success and economic development of organizations. In this regard, not only the skills and abilities that make up communicative competence need to be studied, but also the antecedents of the business interaction efficacy. The current study aimed to identify the role of face and facework in the process of business communication. The study is based on the Face negotiation theory proposed by S. Ting-Toomey. The nature of the relationship between the variables of interest was examined with structural equation modeling. The study sample included 363 employees of Russian as well as international companies. Face concerns and facework were found to be associated with success rate of business communication. Mutual-face was associated with cooperation, otherface – with avoidance, self-face – with domination. Mutual-face and other-face were positively related to satisfaction with communication, whereas self-face – negatively. Cooperation was found to mediate the relationship between mutual-face and willingness to communicate. Thus, we can conclude that the mode of face concern and facework strategies are significant in the structure of business communication. On one hand, face concerns can predict facework behaviors, on the other hand, different face concerns are differently related to satisfaction with communication and willingness to communicate.
