Architecture and components are offered to design an intellectual system of situational awareness and security for transportation and railroads infrastructure are offered. The concept provides event-based streams processing approach to process the primary data and build a grid application of collecting and analysing railroads data from various sources. An architecture is proposed to support predictive analytics and decision support in real-time on very large data volumes as well as an approach to dynamically optimize the timetables on the railway infrastructure networks.
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are becoming more and more popular due to the growing area of their application. However, finding a single approach to different tasks is rather difficult, as each task has its own peculiarities. In this paper we propose a universal hardware platform as the first step to a quicker development of finished solutions based on WSN. We demonstrate the use of our platform in different types of applications.
Purpose – This study explores company strategies for intangibles. We investigate whether it is reasonable for companies to intensify intangibles when the current strategy is not intangible-intensive. This paper aims to elaborate a theoretical model to describe the strategic decision-making in companies.
Design/methodology/approach – We use the Bellman equation framework to find the conditions under which a change in strategy for intangibles is reasonable.
Findings – The results determine the parameters of returns on intangibles in different strategies, the optimal intangible stock and the influence of external economic shocks. The findings of our study demonstrate that many requirements have to be met to make intangible-intensive strategy beneficial for a company. Moreover negative shocks of crises force a company to postpone a new strategy on intangibles.
Practical implications – This research provides an insight into strategic behaviour of companies under uncertainty. The theoretical findings demonstrate under which conditions companies should decide to switch to a strategy more intangible-intensive. This model can be used to empirically test parameters of different investment strategies of companies using structural estimation techniques.
Originality/value – This work contributes to the theory of managerial economics giving closed form solutions for the dynamic optimization of company behaviour. The findings also show how this behaviour might change when economic crises are faced or expected.
This book constitutes the joint refereed proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Next Generation Wired/Wireless Advanced Networks and Systems, NEW2AN 2015, and the 8th Conference on Internet of Things and Smart Spaces, ruSMART 2015, held in St. Petersburg, Russia, in August 2015. The 74 revised full papers were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The 15 papers selected for ruSMART are organized in topical sections on IoT infrastructure, IoT platforms, smart spaces and IoT cases, and smart services and solutions. The 59 papers from NEW2AN deal with the following topics: streaming, video, and TCP applications, mobile "ad hoc" networks, security, and clouds, sensor networks and IoT, cellular systems, novel systems and techniques, business and services, signals and circuits, optical and satellite systems, and advanced materials and their properties.
Inefficiency of wireless sensor networks (WSN) in terms of the network lifetime is one of the major reasons preventing their widespread use. To alleviate this problem different data collection approaches have been proposed. One of the promising techniques is to use unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). In spite of several papers advocating this approach, there have been no system designs and associated performance evaluation proposed to date. In this paper, we address this issue by proposing a new WSN design, where UAV serves as a sink while Bluetooth low energy (BLE) is used as a communication technology. We analyze the proposed design in terms of the network lifetime and area coverage comparing it with routed WSNs. Our results reveal that the lifetime of the proposed design is approximately two orders of magnitude longer than that of the routed WSNs. Using the tools of integral geometry we show that the density of nodes to cover a certain area is approximately two times more for routed WSNs compared to our design.

This should be considered when forecastingreliability indicators at the design stage.The accuracy of the prediction and the planning for the event to ensure reliability depends on correctness of valuation and accounting greatest possiblenumber of factors. The Working Paper examines the peculiarities of the Russian model of corporate governance and control in the banking sector. The study relies upon theoretical as well as applied research of corporate governance in Russian commercial banks featuring different forms of ownership. We focus on real interests of all stakeholders, namely bank and stock market regulators, bank owners, investors, top managers and other insiders. The Anglo-American concept of corporate governance, based on agency theory and implying outside investors’ control over banks through stock market, is found to bear limited relevance. We suggest some ways of overcoming the gap between formal institutions of governance and the real life.
