«Одна из блестящих страниц науки о классической древности»: С.Я. Лурье о Ф.Ф. Зелинском и его теории рудиментарных мотивов (СПФ АРАН. Ф. 976. Оп. 1. Д. 95)
The paper presents a characteristic and a publication of an archive document, the Russian version of a short memoir by the famous Classicist S.Ya. Lur’e (Salomo Luria) about F.F. Zelinskiy (Tadeusz Zieliński), which was published in Polish in the journal Meander in 1959. Lur’e’s memoir gives his impression of studies in 1910-1920s under Zelinskiy and characterizes his method of analyzing rudimentary motifs in the Attic tragedies, which allowed reconstructing the most ancient plots of the Greek mythology. The author of the memoir discusses a number of such motifs defined by Zelinskiy in his work Tragodumena, which was published during the Polish period of his career (1925), and shows its opportunities for analyzing the folklore, the motifs of the Old Testament and its alleged connection to the Ancient Egyptian tradition, the text of the Sermon on the Mount. He also describes the position of Zelinskiy in the Russian research of Antiquity in the early 20th century, his religiosity and its impact on his works. A remarkable feature of the memoir is that its author gives a particular prominence to his own use of Zelinskiy’s method, much more far-fetching than the studies of its maker. The article also characterizes Lur’e’s heritage in the St. Petersburg Branch of the Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which reflects his studies in the so-called “social paleontology”.
