We present experiments on nematic aerogel oscillating in superfluid 3He. This aerogel consists of nearly parallel mullite strands and is attached to a vibrating wire moving along the direction of the strands. Previous nuclear magnetic resonance experiments in 3He confined in similar aerogel sample have shown that the superfluid transition of 3He in aerogel occurs into the polar phase and the transition temperature (Tca) is only slightly suppressed with respect to the superfluid transition temperature of bulk 3He. In present experiments we observed a change in resonant properties of the vibrating wire at T=Tca and found that below Tca an additional resonance mode is excited which is coupled to the main resonance.

Numerous studies have provided compelling evidence that the probability distribution of avalanche sizes follows a power law, and that 1/f noise is present in the stochastic dynamics of landslides. We present a theoretical explanation of these phenomena within the framework of self-organized criticality theory, proposing a discrete-time model in the form of a sandpile cellular ...

A discrete-time model is presented for the self-organization of the X/Twitter social network to the edge of a phase transition, characterized by avalanche-like propagation of information in the network. The model is based on the analogy between the critical dynamics of the X social network and sandpile cellular automata with Manna rule on the Chung-Lu ...

Superconducting properties of metallic micro- and nanowires can be entirely different from those of bulk superconductors. Of particular interest is the nonequilibrium current-induced state of a quasi-one-dimensional superconducting channel. The most interesting phenomenon here is the stepped I–V characteristic, explained by a process known as phase slip center activation. If the origin of such step-like ...

Machine learning (ML) has become a powerful tool for accelerating the development of carbon-based supercapacitors;
however, most published models assume that a single predictive framework can describe both conventional
porous carbons and hybrid carbon electrodes. Here, we test this assumption using a comprehensive
benchmark dataset and an extended literature-curated dataset enriched with synthesis- and electrolyte-related
descriptors. Three ML algorithms ...

This paper compares the ranging precision of direct time-of-flight (dToF) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) LiDAR architectures, both using a superconducting nanowire single-photon detector (SNSPD). Both systems operate at 1550 nm with a 50 ps pulsed laser and time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC). The dToF configuration achieved approximately 100 µm precision at 10 m, while the NLOS configuration achieved 500 µm precision for ...

Designing stable quantum computers with the ability to correct errors responsibly requires a detailed understanding of the physical processes that underlie these devices. In this study, detailed quantum mechanical simulations of the atomic structure, charge distribution of electron density, and distribution and orientation of magnetic and quantum states as a function of applied external pressure ...

Manufacturing precise quantum computers with small errors in quantum operations, long coherence times, and low power consumption is the most important challenge in modern nanoelectronics. To understand the operating modes of such calculators in detail, both the optimal arrangement of the qubit system within the structure and changes in its magnetic properties must be comprehensively ...

The article presents the results of experiments in superfluid 3He, performed using a vibrating wire resonator with a nematic aerogel glued to it, which allowed detecting transitions of He to new superfluid phases: to the polar phase, β-phase, and the distorted A- and β-phases. Experiments on observing the A1-phase in a nematic aerogel are also ...

We present the results of high magnetic field experiments in pure 3He (in the absence of 4He coverage) in nematic aerogel. In this case the aerogel strands are covered with few atomic layers of solid paramagnetic 3He, which enables the spin-exchange mechanism for 3He quasiparticles scattering. Our earlier NMR experiments showed that in low fields, ...

In this work, we report the first synthesis of photochromic aerogels and films based on TEMPO-oxidized cellulose and chitosan modified with tungsten trioxide nanoparticles. The blue coloring of aerogels based on WO3-modified biopolymers under UV light occurs due to the reduction of WO+6 to WO+5. The coloration of films of the same composition occurs due to ...

The monograph summarizes and systematizes the results of experimental and theoretical studies of thermal insulation in industrial structures, technological facilities, pipelines and building structures. Modern types of thermal insulation materials based on heat-resistant gas-filled plastics, foamed glass, foamed rubber, aerogels and products made of mineral fibers are considered.
The basic ideas about the morphology of gas—filled ...

It is known that in low magnetic fields the superfluid transition of 3He in nematic aerogel occurs into the polar phase. Using a vibrating aerogel resonator, we observe that in high magnetic fields this transition splits into two discrete transitions, occurring at different temperatures. According to theoretical models, a new superfluid phase— the β phase— should be realized between ...

An alkoxysilane derivative bearing 10-vertex closo-decaborate nanocluster (B10H102–) was successfully synthesized and immobilized in SiO2 aerogel matrix. closo-Decaborate-containing SiO2 aerogels showed high specific surface (~750 m2/g), open porosity (~95 %) and extremely low apparent density (80 mg/cm3) as well as increased thermal stability of closo-decaborate moiety. Despite the low boron content (~1.2 mol.% of boron ...

In nematic aerogels, their constituent fibers are oriented along the same direction. In liquid 3He filling such aerogels, the scattering of Fermi quasiparticles at ultralow temperatures becomes anisotropic. This makes it possible to obtain new superfluid phases of 3He, which are not observed in bulk 3He. In this article, results of NMR investigation of these new superfluid phases ...
