Социальные консерваторы и выборы президента США (2012 г.)
The author considers the process of political polarization of the Republican Party on social and moral issues during the period of US presidential elections in 2012. The aim of the research is to determine the role of the social conservatives in the process of polarization. Rick Santorum’s presidential campaign is analyzed in comparison with the programs of his main competitors (M. Romney, N. Gingrich and R. Paul). The formation of voter confidence with socially conservative beliefs to R. Santorum is investigated. Special attention is paid to the Republican front runners’ programs. The most significant, in the context of investigation, phases of the 2012 Republican primaries are analyzed. Strengthening of right-wing elements of the Republican Party is explored. The paper is based on the books, articles and speeches of the Republican candidates, the transcriptions of television debates, the results of exit polls and elections.
