Réseaux ou projets d’excellence : de quoi les BRICS ont-ils vraiment besoin ?

HERMES (France). 2017. No. 79. P. 132-139.
Translator: F. Wirth.

The article is devoted to the discussion of the current situation in BRICS higher education collaboration. It starts with the analysis of the radical changes in the global Academia, which are described as a joint influence of the trends of massification, globalization and internationalization. According to the author, BRICS countries can meet these challenges with two main approaches: through various excellence projects (such as Russian 5/100 programme) and via developing horizontally structured university networks (such as BRICS Network University). The goals of the first are creation of the elite schools and better integration to the Global Academia, while the second addresses most pressing development issues BRICS societies face. The conclusion is that while excellence projects do help to develop world-class education, the networks better answer current needs of the BRICS countries.
