This paper focuses on the origins, theoretical and methodological grounds, problems and prospects of the activities associated with the rationalization of management in business organizations. It aims to clarify the validity of the streamline management approach in contemporary business organizations perspec, as well as concentrates on its possible forms. In this part of the paper the authors consider the notions of rationality and rationalization in the works of Jurgen Habermas. They compare the teleological and communicative rationalities, consider a wide and a narrow interpretation of the term "rationalization"; dwell on the theory of rational choice; address the problems in the application of ideas of teleological rationality to management practices; and focus on the concept of bounded rationality.
