Профессионально-коммуникативные задачи преподавателя иностранного языка (по результатам анализа должностных инструкций)
The article analyses essential communicative tasks for trainee English language teachers from the employers’ point of view. It introduces previous research in the area, which is followed by an investigation of 20 American and British job adverts for school English teachers. Naming communicative functions more properly might help to design valid language training and assessment materials for trainee EFL-teachers.
The paper deals with the issues of foreign language education for the students of non-linguistic departments. The present article views the importance of communicative tasks in professionally-centered approach to education within the framework of English language teaching. The author describes various skills and competences needed while using professionally oriented approach, among which the priority is given to the competences of reading authentic sociological works and articles; speaking; academic writing; research activities and public speech. The mentioned competences are viewed as the ones which ensure the development of the ability to cope with the communicative problems in terms of professional communication in a foreign language. The author provides possible assignments for developing and mastering each of the mentioned skills, and explains their utility and possibility of practical application in the realm of professional activities.
The report is devoted to a particular aspect of ESP, namely teaching public speaking skills to students of non-linguistic humanities. It is argued that such skills can and must be taught for the sake of students' future success in their professionally oriented public speaking, and that such teaching must rely on and proceed from the phonetics of the language. The key issue under consideration here is how, while teaching the English language, to teach the English speech in its broadest sense, relying on the concepts of the pronunciation standard and articulation basis. Special emphasis is put on some cutting-edge practical teaching techniques as well as on the purposeful rhetorical use of phonetic properties of the language.
The article considers the main principles underpinning course design with regard to teaching Legal English. Among the issues discussed are the syllabus design, types of interaction activities, as well as preparation of ESP teachers. Much attention is paid to needs analysis issues and the genre approach in teaching Legal English.
Based on a survey of 150 students at several universities, the paper analyses the authenticity of materials and authenticity of their use in ESP classes.
This research studies professional and non-professional levels of academic discourse by analyzing cognitive metaphor models in the English written texts produced by Russian students with different competence in economics. The results of comparative analysis of specific features in metaphor models in two types of academic discourses – professional and non-professional – reveal the difference how students at different levels of study develop their professional competence in their core curriculum disciplines. At an early stage students predominantly use external associations in metaphors, and at a later stage – internal/personal verbal associations. The research results might be significant for more targeted identification of ESAP content.
The paper is focused on the study of reaction of italian literature critics on the publication of the Boris Pasternak's novel "Doctor Jivago". The analysys of the book ""Doctor Jivago", Pasternak, 1958, Italy" (published in Russian language in "Reka vremen", 2012, in Moscow) is given. The papers of italian writers, critics and historians of literature, who reacted immediately upon the publication of the novel (A. Moravia, I. Calvino, F.Fortini, C. Cassola, C. Salinari ecc.) are studied and analised.
In the article the patterns of the realization of emotional utterances in dialogic and monologic speech are described. The author pays special attention to the characteristic features of the speech of a speaker feeling psychic tension and to the compositional-pragmatic peculiarities of dialogic and monologic text.
