Constructing the psychological supports in an elderly patient with cognitive deficiency based on the Vygotsky-Luria system. A single-case study
Acta Neuropsychologica. 2014. Vol. 12. No. 2. P. 237–256.
Varako N. A.
Cognitive disorders among elderly patients decrease the
quality of life for them and their family. Although certain methods
and techniques of support provided to this group are
being developed and described in the subject literature, nevertheless,
there are still many open issues. The Vygotsky-Luria
system is one of the models which makes it possible to reorganize
activity and develop certain supports. Therefore it
is important to evaluate the influence of the rehabilitation interventions
on the quality of life of an elderly patient with progressive
cognitive disorders. In this article we describe the
techniques and ways of neurorehabilitation and demonstrate
the influence of ‘psychological prosthetics’ on improving the
quality of life of a patient with cognitive disorders.
A single case study of an elderly man, 78 years old, experiencing
sight and cognitive disorders.
We distinguished 8 main difficulties, for which techniques and
practices were developed, first of all, to engage external means
and to organize the environment properly.
Focused neuropsychological rehabilitation with the selection
of the main ‘goals’ of rehabilitation and the construction of
various supports, including those based on the Vigotskiy-
Luria system, enriches the quality of a patient’s life, increases
their independence, social engagement and improves the
emotional atmosphere within the family.

Letter recognition is assumed to involve several levels of analysis, including coarse tuning for category and novelty and more fine tuning for specific features, related to letter orientation. We employed an oddball fast periodic visual stimulation (FPVS) paradigm with magnetoencephalography (Elekta VectorView, 306 sensors) to study neural discrimination responses in the source space. Using contrasts ...

High-dimensional tabular data are common in biomedical and clinical research, yet conventional machine learning methods often struggle in such settings due to data scarcity, feature redundancy, and limited generalization. In this study, we systematically evaluate Synolitic Graph Neural Networks (SGNNs), a framework that transforms high-dimensional samples into sample-specific graphs by training ensembles of low-dimensional pairwise ...

Embodied and embedded cognition (EEC) theory proposes that language and cognitive development emerge from bodily interactions with the environment, yet empirical tests of this claim in clinical developmental populations remain rare. This mini-review synthesizes behavioral, electrophysiological, and structural neuroimaging evidence from children with serious early motor disorders—obstetric brachial plexus palsy and arthrogryposis multiplex congenita—which restrict ...

Anxiety is a multidimensional construct that influences cognitive performance in complex ways, yet its factor structure and domain-specific effects remain unclear. This study examined (1) the psychometric structure of general and specific anxiety measures, (2) their associations with cognitive performance across different domains, and (3) the predictive power of machine learning models in classifying cognitive ...

In psychology, people's assessment of conditional statements "if--then", agreement and disagreement with them is actively studied. This assessment of people who are not specialists in the field of logic often differs greatly from its requirements, especially if the reality observed by a person to one degree or another contradicts a formally correct logical conclusion.
