WHERE TO START EVALUATING A HEALTHY WORKPLACE: PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF DEVELOPING THE WORKPLACE QUALITIES CHECKLIST
A new checklist to assess the characteristics of a healthy workplace is developed. Since the measured variables were nominal, a mixed deductive-inductive methodology was used to identify the relevant features of the workplace. Firstly, the literature was analyzed, considering the role of physical space in maintaining employees’ positive functioning. Secondly, in-depth interviews with experts were conducted. Investigations resulted in a list of 56 statements describing various features of a healthy workplace and that were grouped into nine domains (Urban infrastructure and office, Individual work, Teamwork, Office space requirements, Recovery, Communication, Self-presentation, Personal development, and Attachment to the workplace). Thirdly, each item was examined regarding its content validity by a second group of experts. In total, three samples of experts participated in the study. Following content validity assessment, one item was removed due to insufficient validity, resulting in a final set of 55 items. The final version of the item set was titled the Workplace Qualities Checklist. It works as a valid and reliable instrument that can be implemented in research and practice.
