ОПЫТ ТИПИЗАЦИИ КРАСНОЛАКОВОЙ КЕРАМИКИ НА ОСНОВАНИИ ДАННЫХ РЕНТГЕНОФАЗОВОГО АНАЛИЗА (НА МАТЕРИАЛЕ ИЗ ПОДВАЛА II В.Н.Э. ГОРОДСКОЙ ПЛОЩАДИ ЦИТАДЕЛИ ТАНАИСА).
Red slip ware (terra sigillata) is often found in the closed complexes of Tanais of Roman times but has rarely been the main subject of research. In the entire history of Tanais’s studies, provenance and trade routes of red slip ware to the emporium have been the focus of only a handful of studies. This study unveils the initial findings of a scientific exploration into this red slip ware (regional geological analysis of the molding mass phase X-ray diffraction results) from the closed complexes of the settlement. Our results allow us to distinguish the two groups of Pontic sigillata produced in two regions of significantly different geological structure and to establish at least two sources of Tanais terra sigillata in the 2nd century AD: Tauric Chersonesos and Western Anatolia. Methodologically important results were also obtained by the analysis of calcareous inclusions in ceramics as an indicator of it’s secondary (hypergene) changes in the cultural layer. The regional geological interpretation of mineral composition of ceramics allows us to start forming a title collection of results of X-ray phase analysis of the red slip ware of Tanais.
