Factors of Students Network Formation: Case of Russian University

This paper investigates the process of students’ network formation in National Research University– Higher School of Economics. Using pairwise regression analysis, estimated on a network of second year students from two faculties, we find that geographical closeness along with homophily effect of gender, grade point average, smoking and leisure preferences have a strong impact on probability of being friends.
