It is hard to imagine and characterize the modern geopolitical space without the process of globalization. It is a powerful transforming force influencing events in the contemporary world and, to a great extent, guiding geopolitical processes and shaping the geopolitical picture of the world. This article discusses the process of globalization as the main factor in structuring the present geopolitical space. It also raises the question that globalization launched the tool for curtailing the institution of national sovereignty, which is gradually disappearing, in a different way for each state. It is evident that if humanity somehow manages to avoid global cataclysms, then in the future new states will first stop appearing on the world map, after which the process of disappearance of existing ones will begin.
