Саудовская Аравия: укрепление вертикали власти в условиях ломки старой мир-системы
The implementation of reforms in Saudi Arabia has met with both support and resistance. A significant part of the youth and pro-government "liberals", part of the elite, who rejected the previous system of pyramid-group feudalism, were in favor of reforms. The sections of society interested in preserving the old order opposed it. Among the opponents were jihadist extremists; part of the members of the "ruling tribe" of the Saudis, who were losing their power and income associated with the previous system of corruption; part of the Wahhabi corporation; religious police; theologians who feared losing the influence of Sharia interpreters; part of the business that flourished due to government subsidies and lack of control over expenses and income. Among the opponents were conservatives from the middle and lower strata, dissatisfied with the granting of greater rights to women. However, the firm course of the kingdom's leadership to protect, first of all, the national interests of the country and the refusal to obey the dictates of the United States on oil prices was emphasized by the demonstrative rapprochement with China and neutrality in Russia's confrontation with the collective West. Saudi Arabia was looking for and finding its place in the changing world-system.
