Политическая воля VS сырьевая ловушка: история одного успеха
O.V. Gaman-Golutvina examines in the article the factors of economic success of Saudi Arabia based on the analysis of the historical path of this country. Far from deep knowledge of the topic, superficial explanations, known for their commitment to simple answers to complex questions, reduce the factors of Saudi Arabia's achievements to oil, the proceeds of which have indeed been flooding the Arabian Peninsula with socio‐economic problems for a long time. However, with all the validity of this statement, it should be taken into account that the endowment of natural resources in non-isolated cases became a “resource trap” and, moreover, a “resource curse" even for countries with a disproportionately higher level of development. Political will, competence, knowledge, and value beliefs are qualities beyond which natural gifts do not become a source of development.
