The regional-geological approach to the conside ration of the mineral composition of ancient ceramics is based on regular relations: clays - geological conditions (tectonic-sedimentary conditions of clay formation within the region) and clays -ceramics (regular phase mineral transitions during fi ring). Th e application of the method for solving the problems of localization of the regions of ancient pottery production seems to be a promi sing approach, which in turn gives reason to hope for obtaining fundamentally new data on regional peculiarities of the composition of ceramic masses of wares belonging to diff erent historical periods.
