Resource Race and Green Transition: Three Unexpected Conclusions from Foresight Centres Research on Climate and Poverty
Beneath the surface of green energy—which most people associate with solar panels, electric vehicles, and reduced CO2 emissions—lies a complex web of geopolitical interests, international inequality, and resource constraints. Researchers from the Laboratory for Science and Technology Studies (LST) at the HSE ISSEK Foresight Centre have published a series of articles in leading international journals on hidden and overt conflicts surrounding critically important metals and minerals, as well as related processes in the energy sector.

Immersion in Second Language Environment Influences Bilinguals Perception of Emotions
Researchers at the Cognitive Health and Intelligence Centre at the HSE Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience have discovered how bilingual individuals process emotional words in their native (first) and non-native (second) languages. It was found that the link between word meaning and bodily sensations is weaker in a second language than in a first language. However, the more a person is immersed in a language environment, the smaller this difference becomes. The article has been published in Language, Cognition and Neuroscience.

Connectedness between (un)conventional monetary policy and islamic and advanced equity markets: A returns and volatility spillover analysis

International Review of Economics and Finance. 2024. Vol. 91. P. 348–363.
Choi S., Phiri A., Teplova T., Umar Z.

Using the spillover index, we investigated the relationship between Islamic equity markets and unconventional monetary policy(UMP) in five advanced economies. We documented that the spillovers among equity markets (“intraconnectedness”) are stronger than the spillovers among equity markets and monetary policy (“interconnectedness”), based on a static analysis of both returns and volatility. Second, the time-varying total spillover index showed that the Islamic market is a dominant net receiver of returns and volatility shocks. Furthermore, their spillover effect strengthened during the financial turmoil and UMP periods. Third, the time-varying net spillover effects implied that the US is the most dominant transmitter of return shocks, whereas the EU and UK are the dominant transmitters of volatility shocks. In addition, the US and Canada are the dominant transmitters of monetary policy shocks, whereas Japan is the main net receiver of these shocks. These results will be useful to investors, portfolio managers, and regulators in terms of investment decisions, portfolio allocation, and risk monitoring.

Petrov I., Автоматика и телемеханика 2026 № 6 С. 82–118

Zamyatina N., Rusakov D., Evgeny V.,
Luigi Pasinetti: the approach to development planning in historical context
Melnik D. V., Garbellini N., Halevi J., Structural Change and Economic Dynamics 2026 Vol. 78 P. 1–9
This paper argues that Luigi Pasinetti’s theory of structural change—most notably his concept of vertically hyper-integrated sectors—can be better understood when read against the background of the Soviet debates on planning and industrialization of the 1920s and 1930s. We suggest that Pasinetti’s analytical framework addresses, at a high level of abstraction, a set of problems ...

More on discrete convexity
Gurvich V., Naumova M., / Series "Working papers by Cornell University". 2024.
In several recent papers some concepts of convex analysis were extended to discrete sets. This paper is one more step in this direction.
Arkhipov A. V., Емельянов А.
