The 'Second Shift' Is Not Why Women Avoid News
Women are more likely than men to avoid political and economic news, but the reasons for this behaviour are linked less to structural inequality or family-related stress than to personal attitudes and the emotional perception of news content. This conclusion was reached by HSE researchers after analysing data from a large-scale survey of more than 10,000 residents across 61 regions of Russia. The study findings have been published in Woman in Russian Society.

The Onomasticon of M. Y. Lermontov On the Example of the Drama “The Spaniards”

P. 351–353.
Герцен А. С.

The article analyses the connection between anthroponyms in M. Y. Lermontov’s drama “The Spaniards”
and characters’ features from the point of view of literary onomastics. The author advances the thesis that the author
chose the list of names under the influence of both the etymology and the frequency of naming in the culture of the
described country. M. M. Bakhtin’s principle of dialogism determines the relationships between the name and the
character: the character has either the characteristics associated with the semantics of the name, or the opposite of
them. The influence of onomasticon of Romanticism epoch authors such as Lessing and Schiller on the early works
by M. Y. Lermontov noted in the research is explained by author’s deep connections with German Romanicism. It is
concluded that most of the characters from the drama “The Spaniards” have names that reflect their character traits.

Noun Classifiers in Proto-Nivkh?
Zhivlov M., International Journal of Eurasian Linguistics 2025 Vol. 7 No. 1 P. 192–200
A significant portion of Nivkh lexicon consists of compounds whose prepounds denote either the whole of which the compound names a part or a material of which the object denoted by the compound is made. Whether we can call these prepounds “noun classifiers” is a purely terminological question, depending on the definition of “noun classifier”. ...

Measuring the semantic priming effect across many languages
Buchanan E., Cuccolo K., Heyman T. et al., Nature Human Behaviour 2026 Vol. 10 No. 1 P. 182–201
Semantic priming has been studied for nearly 50 years across various experimental manipulations and theoretical frameworks. Although previous studies provide insight into the cognitive underpinnings of semantic representations, they have suffered from small sample sizes and a lack of linguistic and cultural diversity. In this Registered Report, we measured the size and the variability of ...

The paper is devoted to the basic principles of verbal colexification defined at the cross-linguistic level. Sherbakova O., Андрющенко Е. А., Мирошник К. Г. et al., Психология. Журнал Высшей школы экономики 2024 Т. 21 № 4 С. 655–677
The so-called cross-modal correspondence effect is a special case of multisensory integration; it manifests as faster and more accurate responses to simultaneously presented stimuli of different modalities that are congruent in certain features (e.g., high-pitch sound — high spatial location), as opposed to incongruent ones. This study assessed the extent to which individual emotional characteristics ...
