The author analyses several texts of the 16th century which formulated the famous theory of the “Moscow being the Third Rome”. He finds that the texts attributed to the Pskovian monk Filofei do not contain any ethnic denomination derived from the name “Rus”. In his opinion, it evidences the originality and exclusivity of Filofei’s ideas.
