"Смешение французского с нижегородским": случаи языковой интерференции в "Деревне" Дмитрия Григоровича

The article deals with the language interference in «The Village» (1846) by D. Grigorovich. This story was one of the first realistic works devoted to the representation of the people in Russian literature. It is well known that, creating descriptions of the folk life, Grigorovich supplied the text with numerous low colloquial elements. However, it is not so well known that French was his native language, and this circumstance determined the language of «The Village» to no lesser extent. A close analysis of the text allows us to conclude that the Russian-language work of Grigorovich is significantly influenced by the French language, which can be traced at different linguistic levels. In the article, language interference in «The Village» is illustrated by a series of demonstrative examples. The linguistic features of Grigorovich’s story largely determined its subsequent reputation.
