HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Encyclopedia of Renewable Energy, Sustainability, and the Environment. Volume 1

Vol. 1. Elsevier, 2024.
Under the general editorship: M. Reza Rahimpour

Encyclopedia of Renewable Energy, Sustainability and the Environment, Four Volume Set comprehensively covers all renewable energy resources, including wind, solar, hydro, biomass, geothermal energy, and nuclear power, to name a few. In addition to covering the breadth of renewable energy resources at a fundamental level, this encyclopedia delves into the utilization and ideal applications of each resource and assesses them from environmental, economic, and policy standpoints. This book will serve as an ideal introduction to any renewable energy source for students, while also allowing them to learn about a topic in more depth and explore related topics, all in a single resource.

Persistent illegal sturgeon fishing in the Caspian Sea
Ermolin I., Suvorkov P., Conservation Biology 2026 No. e70300 P. 1–10
Illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing driven by artisanal small-scale fisheries is a critical threat to global biodiversity and is exemplified by the commercial extinction of Caspian sturgeons (Acipenser and Huso). A key knowledge gap persists regarding the scale and behavioral dynamics of these operations. We tested the hypothesis that persistent high-volume sturgeon poaching is sustained ...

Ismailova E., Финансы и бизнес 2026 Т. 22 № 1 С. 37–61
In recent years, there has been a growing body of research examining how environmental, social, and governance (ESG) indicators affect the terms of mergers and acquisitions (M&A). A particularly relevant issue is the relationship between a company’s ESG profile and the acquisition premium — a markup over the target firm's market value. This review summarizes ...

The partitioning of mobile fractions of chemical elements in the mineral loamy soils during natural regeneration after plowing in Western Russia
Enchilik P. R., G.V.Klink, Semenkov I. N., Science of the Total Environment 2025 Vol. 998 Article 180219
Natural regeneration of forest soils affected by agricultural practices is a common phenomenon in many regions worldwide, particularly in boreal ecosystems. Affecting soil quality, the partitioning of extractable fractions of heavy metals and metalloids (HMMs) is not studied during natural regeneration. The following stages of natural regeneration after plowing have been identified in the Smolenskoye ...

Makarov I. A., Smolovik E. V.,

Green urban environments enhance brain-to-brain synchrony
Nadezhda Kerimova, Akimov P., Ntoumanis I. et al., Scientific Reports 2025 Vol. 15 Article 43524
Previous studies have demonstrated that people focus on fewer specific features of natural environments compared to built environments. This may imply that neural activity stronger converge across individuals in green environments than in built environments, where people may focus very differently on diverse and often overloading urban stimulation. We hypothesized that the similarity of mental ...
