In recent years, the trend towards a relative weakening of US hegemony in Latin America has clearly manifested. Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 US presidential elections signified that there would be efforts to revise the foreign policy of his predecessor from the Republican Party, to restore the US leadership in the region. This revision is reflected in the US narratives, particularly in concerning the interpretation of national security issues. Based on the analysis of a significant source base, the paper attempts to answer the questions about Washington’s assessment of the contemporary transformations in regional policy, its definition of challenges and threats for the US, and intentions to address them. The paper explores US national security narratives relating to the Latin America during the Biden administration. The study relies on the theory of constructivism, a regional approach, an agent-centric approach, and a method of paradigmatic interpretation of narratives. Problematic areas of the US narrative that constitute the subject of the study include systemic challenges to American leadership, the promotion of liberal and democratic values, global threats in the regional dimension, cross-border security threats.
