Связь субъективного благополучия школьников с их социально-эмоциональным развитием
The article considers child subjective well-being as a separate educational goal and stresses the importance of monitoring the indicator in the school context. Subjective well-being has attracted increasing research interest which can be explained by the fact that today schooling is not defined only as a preparatory stage for future life, but also a life period having intrinsic value. The author of the article attempted to summarize domestic and foreign studies of the inevitable decline in children’s subjective well-being when they reach adolescence, and also analyzed the possible reasons behind the tendency. In addition, the article describes the differences in the level of subjective well-being, as well as in the intensity of the deviation of the indicator due to gender. The article emphasizes the fact that the research findings are rather contradictory. Some indicate that boys tend to have a better level of subjective well-being than girls do approximately after the age of ten, while others show no significant differences in terms of gender. Special attention is paid to the issue of successful social and emotional development of girls and boys, which can be the key to their well-being. It is assumed that knowing gender features of social-emotional development and subjective well-being will enable teachers to prevent the inevitable decline in child subjective well-being to a certain extent, and further studies are required to confirm the finding.
