The determination of personality structure remains among the most controversial problems in trait theory. One of the most well-known models is the structure of the «Big Five», which has become widespread and demonstrated high reproducibility in other cultures’ material. However, contradictory data obtained from different countries and cultures began to accumulate. In this regard, models to distinguish a different number of factors have been developed. Among them are the six-factor and seven-factor solutions, as well as «pan-cultural three», two-factor, and one-factor models that claim to be universal. The article provides an overview of classical and modern attempts to build a personality structure, as well as discusses different approaches to the study of traits.
