At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

A quantum–analogue formalism for modeling supraliminal information processing

Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena. 2026. Vol. 498. Article 135441.
Lubashevsky I., Lubashevskiy V.

We develop a novel cloud-function formalism describing the dynamical relationship between sensory-information processing in large-scale brain networks (supraliminal processing) and the content of the mental representation of an observed object. The formalism combines elements of neural field theory for large-scale neural activity with the spatial characteristics of perceived objects and their embedding in the environment from the first-person perspective. The cloud function is characterized by two key features: (i) its spatial structure inherits properties of the perceived physical object, and (ii) its temporal evolution is governed by regularities reflecting intrinsic properties of large-scale neural activity. The governing equation for the cloud function is based on a neural-field model with polynomial nonlinearities and global phase-shift invariance of neural-pattern oscillations. Its structure may be interpreted as a Schrödinger-type equation with a nonlinear non-Hermitian Hamiltonian supplemented by terms analogous to those of the Lotka–Volterra model. The proposed approach is applied to the change-of-mind phenomenon in decision-making, in which an initial choice may be revised during its execution. Changes of mind are explained as arising from the interplay between fast preconscious sensory processing and slower conscious comparison of alternatives, consistent with neurophysiological evidence for continuous post-decisional evidence accumulation. The necessity of incorporating cloud-function self-interaction is also discussed.

Electrically driven Rabi dynamics of magnetic field induced corner states in a two-dimensional topological insulator
Lavrukhina E. A., Krasavin D. P., Krishtopenko S. S. et al., Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2026 Vol. 114 No. 22 Article 225414
We study coherent electric manipulation of magnetic field induced localized states at a double kink of a helical edge in a HgTe/CdHgTe quantum well. An in-plane magnetic field opens a gap in the one-dimensional (1D) edge spectrum, while changes in the edge orientation generate localized in-gap states at the kinks. We show that, for suitable ...

An infinite series of Gorenstein local algebras failing the affine homogeneity property
Roman Avdeev, Yulia Zaitseva, Mediterranean Journal of Mathematics 2026 Vol. 23 No. 7 Article 224
We provide an infinite series of commutative finite-dimensional Gorenstein local algebras A_n for n ≥ 2. We give an elementary proof that the maximal ideal of every algebra A_n possesses a one-dimensional subspace that is different from the socle and invariant under the automorphism group of A_n. The latter implies that the algebras A_n fail ...

Turbulent Exchange Tensor in the Atmospheric Boundary Layer: An Inverse-Problem Approach Using Radiosonde Wind Observations with High Vertical Resolution
Gordin V. A., Efremenko D., Boundary-Layer Meteorology 2026 Vol. 192 No. 51
An inverse problem of reconstructing the turbulent exchange tensor from large archives of observed wind profiles within the Åkerblom–Ekman (A-E) model framework is investigated using high-vertical-resolution radiosonde observations. The reconstructed tensor provides improved agreement between modeled and observed wind profiles compared to classical formulations based on real turbulent exchange coefficient. Instead of the classical A-E ...

This paper focuses on reflexive problematic statements represented by modal judgments of validity (subjective truth) and their combinations. It is proposed to describe these statements at three levels: reflexive problematic statements per se, modal judgments that characterize the validity of sentences constituting complex statements, and matrix representations of modal judgments. Modal judgments, as part of ...

Comparative Study of Training Methods and Architectures of Echo State Networks
Androsov I., Proceedings of the Institute for System Programming of the RAS 2026 Vol. 38 No. 3 P. 87–114
This paper examines echo state networks (ESNs), one of the most prevalent approaches to implementing reservoir computing. An ESN consists of a recurrent neural network with fixed (untrained) weights and a readout layer that is typically linear and trainable. This approach enables the creation of energyefficient and computationally efficient neural networks capable of real-time learning. However, since ...

Quasi-confined modes produced by the Lugiato-Lefever model with a localized pump and the pseudo-Raman term
Gromov E., Malomed B. A., Physics Letters A 2026 Vol. 567 Article 131219
We introduce an extended nonlinear Lugiato-Lefever equation (LLE) with the pseudo-stimulated-Raman-scattering (pseudo-SRS) cubic term, linear damping/gain, and spatial inhomogeneous (weekly or strongly localized) pump. The LLE is derived, in the extended adiabatic approximation, from the underlying Zakharov’s system (ZS), which includes a viscosity term acting on its low-frequency (LF) component and the pump supporting the ...

The ability to adopt different perspectives, or vantage points, is fundamental to human cognition, affecting reasoning, memory, and imagery. While the first-person perspective allows individuals to experience a scene through their own eyes, the thirdperson perspective involves an external viewpoint, which is thought to demand greater cognitive effort and different neural processing. Despite the frequent ...
