HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Thermal Structure of the Middle and Upper Atmosphere of Mars From ACS/TGO CO2 Spectroscopy

JOURNAL OF GEOPHYSICAL RESEARCH-PLANETS. 2022. Vol. 127. No. 10. Article e2022JE007286.
Belyaev D. A.

Temperature and density in the upper Martian atmosphere, above similar to 100 km, are key diagnostic parameters to study processes of the species' escape, investigate the impact of solar activity, model the atmospheric circulation, and plan spacecraft descent or aerobraking maneuvers. In this paper, we report vertical profiling of carbon dioxide (CO2) density and temperature from the Atmospheric Chemistry Suite (ACS) solar occultations onboard the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter. A strong CO2 absorption band near 2.7 mkm observed by the middle infrared spectrometric channel (ACS MIR) allows the retrieval of the atmospheric thermal structure in an unprecedentedly large altitude range, from 20 to 180 km. We present the latitudinal and seasonal climatology of the thermal structure for 1.5 Martian years (MYs), from the middle of MY 34 to the end of MY 35. The results show the variability of distinct atmospheric layers, such as a mesopause (derived from 70 to 145 km) and homopause, changing from 90 to 100 km at aphelion to 120-130 km at perihelion. Some short-term homopause fluctuations are also observed depending on the dust activity.

Boldyrev K., Sektarov E., Большаков А. П. et al., Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences 2023 Vol. 382 No. 2265 P. 20230170
The neutrally charged silicon-vacancy defect (SiV0) is a colour centre in diamond with spin S = 1, a zero-phonon line (ZPL) at 946 nm and long spin coherence, which makes it a promising candidate for quantum network applications. For the proper performance of such colour centres, all of them must have identical optical characteristics. However, in practice, there ...

Telikova K. N., Balashev S., Notredaeme P. et al., Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society 2022 Vol. 510 No. 4 P. 5974–5983
We present a spectroscopic investigation with the Very Large Telescope/X-shooter of seven candidate extremely strong damped Lyman-α absorption systems [ESDLAs, N(H I) ≥ 5 × 1021 cm-2] observed along quasar sightlines. We confirm the extremely high column densities, albeit slightly (0.1 dex) lower than the original ESDLA definition for four systems. We measured low-ionization metal abundances ...

HD/H2 ratio in the diffuse interstellar medium
Balashev S., Kosenko D. N., Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society: Letters 2020 Vol. 492 No. 1 P. 45–49
We present a semi-analytical description of the relative hydrogen deuteride (HD)/H2 abundance in the diffuse interstellar medium. We found three asymptotics of the relative HD/H2 abundance for different parts of the medium and their dependence on the physical parameters, namely, number density, intensity of the ultraviolet field, cosmic ray ionization rate, and metallicity. Our calculations are in ...

We present constraints on physical conditions in diffuse HD/H2-bearing molecular clouds using measured HD/H2 column density ratio. We used recently published formalism that describes how this ratio changes with ultraviolet field intensity, number density and cosmic ray ionization rate. Out of them the most important parameter is the cosmic ray ionization rate, as it determines the ...

Dust and dusty plasma effects in Schumann resonances on Mars: Comparison with Earth
Izvekova Y. N., Popel S. I., Izvekov O. Y., Icarus 2022 Vol. 371 Article 114717
Dust and dusty plasma play significant role in the atmosphere and ionosphere of Mars. Electrification in dust events such as dust devils and dust storms can presumably lead to electric fields large enough for discharges to take place and for existence of oscillations in the Schumann cavity. We discuss the role of dust and dusty ...
