Mexican republicanism dates back to the War of Independence (1810–1821), maintaining this form of government to this day. The republic was constitutionally established in 1824, but Mexican politicians began to discuss the meaning of the concept in 1821, after the establishment of the sole power of Agustin de Iturbide, what deserves a separate study within the framework of intellectual history.
