Science, Technology and Innovation in Russia: Development Challenges and Opportunities
The course towards rethinking the role of science, technology and innovation (STI) in socio-economic progress and public policy has been noticeably intensifying worldwide. At the national and global levels, a long-term agenda continues to develop, aimed at solving the “cross-cutting” problems of STI. Russia, just starting to emerge from the socio-economic recession caused by the pandemic, at the beginning of 2022 faced even stronger external challenges related to the introduction of a whole series of powerful political and economic sanctions against it. This required the significant adjustment of public policies in relation to various sectors of the economy, including STI. However, in Russia, the need to respond to the current economic shocks coincided with the ongoing transformation of the STI policy model, which had been taking place over recent years.
