The concept of psychache describes intense negative experiences of guilt, shame, insult, loneliness or frustration that develop in mental disorders or in response to the loss of someone or something significant and attractive to a person. The aim of this study was the Russian adaptation of the full and short versions of the R. Holden's Psychache Scale (PAS) as the most common instrument for assessing non-physical pain in foreign science and practice. The study involved 562 Russian-speaking respondents who filled out the Psychache Scale and Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21). The full and short versions of the adapted measure showed high Cronbach’s alpha coefficients, which confirmed the internal reliability, and high correlation coefficients with psychological distress scores according to the DASS-21, indicating the convergent validity. The factor structure of the full version of the Psychache Scale also turned out to be identical to the original instrument, which showed its factor validity. Thus, the full and short versions of the adapted measure can be recommended for research of psychache among Russian-speaking respondents.
