As Different as Chalk and Cheese? The Relationship Between Entrepreneurial Orientation and SMEs’ Growth: Evidence from Russia and Finland
Journal of East-West Business. 2017. Vol. 23. No. 4. P. 337-366.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and firm growth and the moderating role of business environment for Russian and Finnish small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). For hypothesis testing, structural equation modeling is applied to the data set of 104 Russian and 117 Finnish privately owned SMEs. Results show that while in the Finnish market context EO dimensions are directly associated with firm growth, in the emerging Russian market the relationship is moderated by the dynamic and hostile environment. The results also provide evidence of the nature of EO for SMEs operating in Russia.

While many firms operate in dynamic environments, the competitive conditions faced by firms during an economic crisis are especially unstable and turbulent. We examine firm strategic decision-making in this distinctive context and investigate the question of whether causal and effectual logic provide similar paths to performance during such challenging economic times. Further, we examine the ...

It also reveals that transactional PCB increases ...

While firm strategic orientations have received considerable attention, most research has focused on singular orientations without considering their complementarity for firm's outcomes. In this study, we decompose the unique and complementary variance of several strategic orientations – market (MO), entrepreneurial (EO), and learning orientation (LO) – on firm sales growth. Our investigation of the individual ...

Controlling for ...

The entrepreneurship literature has suggested the criticality of replicating findings along with the
potential for nuance when examining relationships within emerging market contexts. In this
study, we seek to reproduce the findings of Yu et al. (2021) concerning entrepreneurial orientation
(EO), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and firm performance using a
sample of Russian SMEs. We conduct a quasi-replication study, systematically ...

While there is growing interest in exploring strategic orientations, their interaction, and impact on firm performance, most research has been conducted within stable economic environments. Taking into consideration economic instability, it is timely to develop a more nuanced understanding of how economic crises may affect key strategic orientation prescriptions. In this research, we examine entrepreneurial ...

In all available cross-sectional data, the trajectory of the observed wage–experience profile of
Russian workers is flat, peaks early, and declines sharply afterwards. This shape looks puzzling

problem, when the effects ...

The ‘food regime’ approach was introduced as a historical method of “incorporated

scholars overemphasize an excessively unitary and coherent global food regime. The authors recognize
this approach as a historical-comparative analytical tool to understand global trends, but argue that
