The collective monograph is dedicated to the memory of the Doctor of Sc Prof. D.Y. Arapov from the Moscow University, who was the renown Russian and Soviet historian, orientalist, one of the largest specialists in the history of state-Muslim relations and the construction of Islamic state institutions in the Russian Empire and the USSR. An international team of Sharapov's colleagues and students from Russia, Austria, Great Britain, France, USA, Japan, Australia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Lithuania and other countries took part in the work. The book focuses on a wide range of problems of source studies and approaches to the history of the Muslim communities of imperial and Soviet Russia.
