HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

SPICE Modeling of GaN HEMTs in the Wide Temperature Range (−269°C…+500°C)
Petrosyants K. O., Ismail-zade M. R., Sambursky L. M., , in: 2025 31st International Workshop on Thermal Investigations of ICs and Systems (THERMINIC), 24-26 Sept. 2025.: IEEE, 2025. P. 1–4.
The temperature range of the core industry standard ASM model for GaN HEMTs is extended from the standard commercial level (−60∘C to+150∘C) to extreme low and high level (−269∘C…+500∘C) for low- and high-temperature ICs design. This is done by including additional equations for temperature-dependent parameters. The good agreement between simulated and measured device characteristics is achieved. The RMS error is not more ...

Образы старения и сценарии собственной старости в представлениях людей среднего возраста
Бемлер Е. С., Madfes O., Журнал исследований социальной политики 2025 Т. 23 № 4 С. 751–766
The article examines perceptions of aging and scenarios for the future of old age in the minds of middle-aged people in contemporary Russia. Based on 22 in-depth interviews with respondents aged 39–60, the study reveals how middle-aged people conceptualize old age, plan for their old age, and what adaptation strategies they develop to overcome potential difficulties. The results show ...

Electric-field-induced polarization anisotropy of interband photoluminescence in GaAs
Shalygin V. A., Makhov I., Adamov R. B. et al., Journal of Applied Physics 2024 Vol. 136 No. 19 Article 195703
Near-infrared photoluminescence spectra of the n-doped gallium arsenide epilayer under heating lateral electric field conditions are studied. The field dependences of hot electron and hole temperatures are determined from photoluminescence spectra and from solving the power balance equation using current–voltage characteristic. Polarization anisotropy of the photoluminescence radiation arising due to the anisotropy of hot electron distribution ...

Comparing the cognitive functioning of middle-aged and older foreign-origin population in Estonia to host and origin populations
Abuladze L., Sakkeus L., Selezneva E. et al., Frontiers in Public Health 2023 Vol. 11 Article 1058578
Background: In migration and health research, the healthy migrant effect has been a common finding, but it usually pertains to specific contexts only. Existing findings are inconsistent and inconclusive regarding the cognitive functioning of the (aging) foreign-origin population relative to the populations of their host and sending countries. Moreover, this comparison is an understudied design setting. Objective: We ...

It is not a trivial task to develop an effective overhead power line short circuit sensor while being restricted on weight, dimensions, power consumption, and the relative position of the sensor and the power line wire. Traditionally, a current transformer similar to a Rogowski coil is used as a sensor, followed up by either a ...

How Can the Global Ageing Affect the Global Value System? An Evolutionary Perspective
Korotayev A., Butovskaya M., Shulgin S. et al., Social Evolution & History 2023 Vol. 22 No. 1 P. 57–76
All demographic forecasts imply that global ageing will continue and even intensify in the coming decades. As some values may change with age, global ageing is likely to cause shifts in global values. Our analysis suggests that a shift towards cooperation is to be expected alongside a shift to conservative values, as these are two ...
