The 'Second Shift' Is Not Why Women Avoid News
Women are more likely than men to avoid political and economic news, but the reasons for this behaviour are linked less to structural inequality or family-related stress than to personal attitudes and the emotional perception of news content. This conclusion was reached by HSE researchers after analysing data from a large-scale survey of more than 10,000 residents across 61 regions of Russia. The study findings have been published in Woman in Russian Society.

Preserving Rationality in a Period of Turbulence

‘All My Time Is Devoted to My Dissertation
Ilya Venediktov graduated from the Master’s programme at the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics through the combined Master’s–PhD track and is currently studying at the HSE Doctoral School of Engineering Sciences. At present, he is undertaking a long-term research internship at the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei, where he is preparing his dissertation. In this interview, he explains how an internship differs from an academic mobility programme, discusses his research topic, and describes the daily life of a Russian doctoral student in China.

The understanding and predicting of human behavior is the key to success of leaders, managers, and organizations. The so-called “human factor” has become increasingly important for competitive advantages in business. How do personal qualities, values, attitudes and beliefs affect human behaviour? How do employees respond to managerial practices in organizations and to their leaders’ behaviors? Which behavioral patterns and reactions in organizations can be regarded as “global” and when employee behavior is shaped by national culture and institutions?

The Organizational Behavior is aimed to overview current issues on human behavior in organizational context. It introduces both classic and recent theories, approaches and concepts in organizational behavior as well as the results of empirical studies in the field.

This book is intended to teaching and learning support and addressed primarily to students in Management, as well as in Sociology, especially for “Sociology of Labor” and “Sociology of Management” courses. It can also be of great value to broad reading audience involved in leading and managing people. The Organizational Behavior will assist readers in reflecting day-to-day situations, processes and practices at work they face with.

Organizational Behavior is embedded in the context of two other basic disciplines in Management – Theory of Management and Theory of Organization.

This book presents recent theoretical approaches and concepts, current research in organizational studies, sociology, economy and psychology related to workplace behavior.

While reading this book, one will first find key classifications of workplace behavior. Then, in each distinct chapter, the most important individual-, organization- and societal-level determinants of workplace behavior will be considered.

A special attention in the book is paid to possible contradictions between economic performance and social effects of managerial activities. The results of current research on how to balance organizations’ economic efficiency with employee well-being are discussed.
