Russian-American relations have started to acquire the features of mature confrontation and took a stratigically important, although not central, place in the International system. By some aspects they approximated the previous COld war, but they have finally lost the central meaning for al least one of the sides - the United States. However, they have not become peripheral: the dynamics of confrontation with Russia direcly impacts the US rivalry with China, which in 2021 took the form of existential format. Whereas for Moscow management of escalation with Washington is still of major significance.
