Resource Race and Green Transition: Three Unexpected Conclusions from Foresight Centres Research on Climate and Poverty
Beneath the surface of green energy—which most people associate with solar panels, electric vehicles, and reduced CO2 emissions—lies a complex web of geopolitical interests, international inequality, and resource constraints. Researchers from the Laboratory for Science and Technology Studies (LST) at the HSE ISSEK Foresight Centre have published a series of articles in leading international journals on hidden and overt conflicts surrounding critically important metals and minerals, as well as related processes in the energy sector.

Immersion in Second Language Environment Influences Bilinguals Perception of Emotions
Researchers at the Cognitive Health and Intelligence Centre at the HSE Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience have discovered how bilingual individuals process emotional words in their native (first) and non-native (second) languages. It was found that the link between word meaning and bodily sensations is weaker in a second language than in a first language. However, the more a person is immersed in a language environment, the smaller this difference becomes. The article has been published in Language, Cognition and Neuroscience.

Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the US Credit Default Swap Market

Complexity. 2021. Vol. 2021. Article 1656448.
Romanyuk K.

The COVID-19 pandemic affected the US economy at different levels. Since credit default swaps can be viewed as a default probability indicator, the article shows the credit default swap market perspective on how the US economy was hit by the pandemic. Forecasting models are built to estimate the predictability of the CDS market sectors during the pandemic, i.e., manufacturing, energy, banks, consumer goods, and services and financial sector excluding banks. Econometric tests are applied to check the uniqueness of credit default swap market sectors after the declaration of the pandemic. The results indicate that the financial sector excluding banks performed uniquely during the pandemic; i.e., the predictability of this sector dropped significantly, and the Chow breakpoint test and Wald coefficient test can identify the shift in the data after declaration of the pandemic.

Petrov I., Автоматика и телемеханика 2026 № 6 С. 82–118

Zamyatina N., Rusakov D., Evgeny V.,
Shifts in emancipative values during times of crises: Longitudinal evidence from the COVID-19 pandemic in Russia
Korsunava V., Sokolov B., Welzel C., Asian Journal of Social Psychology 2026 Vol. 29 No. 1 Article e70078
Alongside collectivism–individualism, autonomy–embeddedness, and monumentalism–flexibility, emancipative values (EV) constitute one of the most powerful cultural markers of societal differences in economic  development, demographic change, and levels of liberal democracy. However, the evolutionary emancipation theory's validity relies on the assumption that values crystallize in early adolescence and persist across the lifespan—a premise lacking robust empirical scrutiny. Given ...
