The modern labour market quickly reacts to the changes taking place in the economy and society. At the present stage, specialists and experts often have to make decisions and build a career in conditions of uncertainty. Some will consider significant changes in the labour market as threats, but the others - as opportunities. It is quite difficult to predict accurately the state of the market in 3-5 years, and it turns out that the knowledge obtained just yesterday already requires adaptation and improvement, and the accumulated work experience requires rethinking and translation into digital format. The requirements for specific professions, the content of work and the structure of employment are changing; the approach to measuring employee performance and staff motivation is changing significantly. The professional orientation competence of young people and adults helps to respond adequately to the changes taking place. Those who perceive changes as opportunities often begin to consider career development options, including with the help of career consultants. The authors propose to consider three options for the strategy of behaviour in situations related to job search and employment, their advantages and bottlenecks. The article gives a primary idea of the modern directions of career counselling, the role of test methods and techniques that allow developing behavioural flexibility and a proactive approach to the formation of career trajectories. Career guidance competence helps to identify priority professional areas and realize career ambitions in such a way that the chosen direction can bring both satisfaction and provide a good standard of living.
