А. Флоренского
The paper deals with the question of the dependence of Alexey Losev’s article “Imiaslavie”, which has been preserved in translation into German, on Pavel Florensky’ texts dedicated to Imiaslavie (Onomatodoxy). It is concluded that the dating of this article to 1917–1919, which has been accepted so far as the most likely one, is doubtful. The paper shows that some of the features of Losev’s “Imiaslavie” cannot be explained by the author’s familiarity with Florensky’s early texts dedicated to Imiaslavie. However, in Losev’s “Imiaslavie” there are traces of the influence of Florensky’s text “Imeslavie as a Philosophical Premise”, created in October-November 1922.
These are, first, the use of the anathemas against Barlaam of Calabria and Gregory Akindynos from the Synodic of Orthodoxy as a system-forming source for understanding the Onomatodoxy teaching. Second, using the device of presenting the formula of Imiaslavie in Greek. And, third, the very close correspondence between the Greek formula
of Imiaslavie given by Losev and Florensky’s Greek formula. Thus, it is concluded that there are sufficient grounds to believe that the article “Imiaslavie” was written by Losev either after Florensky created his “Imeslavie as a Philosophical Premise”, i.e. after November 1922, or, at the earliest, after Florensky began to make the series of
reports on Imiaslavie (the content of which was reflected in his “Imeslavie”), i.e. not earlier than the Spring of 1921. This means that Losev’s “Imiaslavie” could have been intended for a collection, which was planned for publication in 1922 in Berlin.
