'Cultural Studies Seeks to Understand What Lies Beneath the Surface of Everyday Things'
Maxim Zhiganov has been exploring different aspects of sound for many years—first in relation to his native Perm and then on a broader, global scale. In this interview for the HSE Young Scientists project, he talks about sound maps, the special issue of the journal Logos, and why it is important to make the familiar less clear and obvious.

At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

Road Injuries Leading Cause of Death Among Men Aged 10 to 39
Worldwide, road injuries are the leading cause of death among males aged 10–39. An international team of researchers reached this conclusion as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, analysing data from 204 countries between 1990 and 2023. Their findings have been published in The Lancet Public Health, with HSE University Professor Vasily Vlassov listed among the collaborators.

Introduction: Caching reduces content access latency by bringing it closer to users and offloading the cloud layer of the network. Edge servers are used for this purpose, but the standard TCP/IP stack does not fully utilize caching capabilities. Therefore, it is necessary to consider a cache model using the Named Data Networking stack, which is ...

Disruption Tails and Revival Policies in the Supply Chain
Ivanov D., Rozhkov M., , in: Handbook of Ripple Effects in the Supply Chain.: Springer, 2025. Ch. 11 P. 215–247.
We study capacity disruption and recovery policy impacts on supply chain (SC) performance. Discrete event simulation methodology is used for analysis with real company data and real disruptions. Two novel findings are shown. First, disruption-driven changes in SC behaviour may result in backlog and delayed orders, the accumulation of which in the post-disruption period we ...

Fairness in supply chain contracts: A laboratory study
Katok E., Pavlov V., Journal of Operations Management 2013 Vol. 31 No. 3 P. 129–137
Various contracts can be designed to coordinate a simple supplier–retailer channel, yet the contracts proposed in prior research and tested in a laboratory setting do not perform as standard theory predicts. The supplier, endowed with all bargaining power, can neither fully coordinate the channel nor extract all of the channel profit. We report on a ...

Shahzad U., Mohammed K. S., Schneider N. et al., Technological Forecasting and Social Change 2023 Vol. 192 P. 1–15
With the recent Russian-Ukraine conflict, the frequency and intensity of disruptive shocks on major supply chains have risen, causing increasing food and energy security concerns for regulators. That is, the combination of newly available sophisticated deep learning tools with real-time series data may represent a fruitful policy direction because machines can identify patterns without being ...

Zykov S. V., Золотухина М. А., Золотухин С. А., Модели, системы, сети в экономике, технике, природе и обществе 2023 № 3 С. 98–114
Background. All attention is focused on reducing the number of accidents on an unfavorable section of the Altufyevsky highway in the area of 5 intersections. Such incidents become aggravating circumstances for nearby infrastructure facilities, such as: shopping malls, shops, cafes, there are also metro stations on a busy site. The endless flow of people and cars, public transport stops, ...

Lower reversal limit of the European Central Bank deposit rate and sustainability of traditional banking business model
Gubareva M., Journal of Financial Economic Policy 2021 Vol. 13 No. 6 P. 686–697
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present an empirical analysis of the European Central Bank (ECB) deposit rate dynamics during 2014–2020, attempting to answer how deep could be cut further this rate without causing persistent yield curve inversions (YCI), i.e. lower yields for longer terms. It addresses the sustainability of the traditional ...

A probabilistic approach to information management of order fulfilment reliability with the help of perfect-order analytics
Lukinskiy V., Vladislav Lukinskiy, Ivanov D. et al., International Journal of Information Management 2023 No. 68 Article 102567
Supplier reliability and order fulfilment performance are usually assessed using a perfect-order calculation. Information management of perfect-order estimation is frequently reduced to expert estimates and to the multiplication of probabilities of failure-free performance of some logistics operations. Moreover, perfect-order estimation is calculated without consideration of supply chain structure, possible combinations of failures, and operational policies (e.g., safety stock levels ...

Scuotto V., Chin T., Pezzi A. et al., Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management 2022 Vol. 29 No. 6 P. 2038–2052
The interest in global multi-tier sustainable supply chains is growing proportionally to its increase in developing countries. Developing countries are considered the new fertile territory for developing global chains for multinational enterprises (MNEs). Despite the positive outcomes derived from this global development, it also induces negative impacts in the domain of domestic firms' competition, education, ...

Ivanov D., Rozhkov M., , in: 9th IFAC Conference on Manufacturing Modelling, Management and Control MIM 2019Vol. 52. Issue 13.: Elsevier, 2019. P. 343–348.
We study the coordination effects of production and ordering policies in the supply chain (SC) that experiences capacity disruptions and recovery. Discrete-event simulation methodology is used for analysis with real company data and real disruptions. It has been revealed that disruption-driven changes in SC behavior may result in post-disruption instability caused by backlog and delayed ...

Власова Е. А., Tsiteladze D., Научные исследования и разработки. Российский журнал управления проектами 2021 Т. 10 № 4 С. 3–13
Managing a portfolio of innovative projects is a complex task that requires special approaches and management methods. According to statistics, only 69% of innovative projects correspond to the strategic goals that the company initially set for itself. Innovative projects involve working in conditions of constant variability, inaccessibility of information and high risk. The aim of ...

Is Collaborative Planning a Determinant of Financial Performance in Supply Chain?: Empirical Study
Berezinets I., Nikolchenko N., Zenkevich N., International Journal of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management 2020 Vol. 13 No. 3 P. 38–53
As both the practice and the results of the contemporary studies show, collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment (CPFR) improves the financial performance of supply chain members. The study investigated how Russian companies - the supply chain members, implement the process of CPFR in practice, and how implementation of the concept of collaborative planning affects the ...

The Problem of Supply Chain Profit Maximization Using Sales Rebate Contract
Berezinets I., Meshkova M., Nikolchenko N., Contributions to Game Theory and Management 2019 Vol. 12 P. 70–99
The paper considers the problem of supply chain profit maximization using the sales rebate contract. The problem solving is proposed for the two-echelon supply chain model with risk-neutral partners and the assumption of triangular distributed demand. It was shown that the sales rebate contract is not coordinating, as it does not provide the individual rationality ...

Supply chain ripple effect: impact of disruption profile and priority scheduling rules for perishable inventory
Rozhkov M., International Journal of Integrated Supply Management 2022 Vol. 15 No. 2 P. 184–205
This article covers the influence of supply chain structure and operations on supply chain resilience in general and the ripple effect specifically. We compare different resilience mitigation policies via an agent-based simulation model and show that in the presence of product perishability, the alternative sourcing policy has superior performance compared to inventory buffer creation or ...
