‘In the Age of Technology, It Is Interesting to Look into the Past and Think about What We Can Take from It
Polina Tabakova decided to apply for a Philology degree at HSE in Nizhny Novgorod because she grew up in Mari El and did not want to move far away from the Russian forests. In an interview for the Young Scientists of HSE University project, she spoke about the genre of the campus novel, the existential drama of Kolobok, and a blackout version of Eugene Onegin.

HSE Scientists Develop Method to Compress Large Language Models Without Losing Quality
Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new compression method for large language models such as GPT and LLaMA that reduces their size by 25–36% without additional training or significant loss of accuracy. This is the first approach to use mathematical transformations—specifically, rotations of model weights—to make models more amenable to compression with structured matrices. The study results have been published in ACL Findings 2025. The code is available on GitHub.

Context and relevance. Contemporary motivation research increasingly highlights the future as a central space for motivational regulation. Particular attention is paid to the constructs of future-oriented motivation and motivation for the possible, as well as to task instrumentality as a meaning-based mechanism linking distant goals with immediate actions (means–ends). Objective: to empirically investigate the role ...

Микиртумов И. Б., Слово.ру: балтийский акцент 2026 Т. 17 № 1 С. 36–53
Based on some of the states of Sergey Zenkin’s article, I describe the relationship between affect and symbol. Affect has two sides — cognitive and non-cognitive. The latter manifests itself in unconscious reactions. Conscious affect is regulated by the communicative situation and the sociocultural environment. Sergey Zenkin describes two systems of meaning circulation. The first is ...

Functional aspects of indeterminacy category and invariant study of polysemous words
Trofimova N., Pesina S. A., Vinogradova S. A. et al., Revista EntreLinguas 2021 Vol. 7 No. S8
The article shows how language consciousness forms semantic unities and individualities in its mental lexicon. The article typologies and lists the functions of indeterminacy markers in English and Russian. The category of indeterminacy is juxtaposed to the problem of polysemous word representation at the lexicon level. We focus our attention on the contextless general representative ...

A naive picture of the world and a biosemantic approach to describing the lexical structure of a word
Trofimova N., Pesina S., Vinogradova S. et al., Revista EntreLinguas 2023 Vol. 9 No. 00
The problems of studying the lexical structure of a word have a way out into various areas of cognitive science, including biosemiotics. In the article, the biosemiotic approach is reframed into a biosemantic approach based on decoding specific lexical structures. The lexical invariants of polysemous words are shown to be meaningful cores of their figurative ...

The Möbius Strip of the Pragmasemantics of Meaning: From Culture through Agency into Nothing and Back
G. L. Tulchinskii, Herald of the Russian Academy of Sciences. (Российская федерация) 2025 Vol. 95 No. 1 P. 73–83
An attempt is made to consider the process of meaning making from the pragmasemantic point of view. This makes it possible to show how the main factors of meaning making—sociocultural practices and agency—interact. Their interaction is not linear. Agency is the result of assimilation of sociocultural experience and accompanying communication in a narrative format. Self-awareness is the ...

The article critically examines the dimensional-dispositional approach in the psychology of religion, which treats religiosity as an invariant psychological trait. The author highlights its limitations: the eclectic nature of the concept of religiosity, the cultural specificity of measurement tools, and the inability to reconstruct the dynamic organization of a believer's personality. As an alternative, a ...

Mechanisms of semantic communication of information and dynamics of complex systems. Application to financial markets
Ivanova I., Rzadkowski G., Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 2025 Vol. 200 No. 3 Article 117131
The analysis of complex systems from an information theoretical perspective requires a more complex framework than that entertained in Shannon's mathematical theory of communication. Extending this theory from engineering to semantic communications allows us to move from the static to dynamic aspects of information communication. While in engineering communications information is only measurable, in semantic ...

The article discusses the problem of measuring indicators related to personal goals. Various positive effects of goals for well-being, self-regulation and personality development have been widely proved in psychological science. We propose a generalization of different measurements in the form of an independent scale of emotional-volitional goal engagement, complementing the existing concepts. Goal engagement allows ...
