The article is written in line with a new direction of scientific research for Russian linguistics, discourse and Spanish studies - cognitive distortions in political discourse. Research studies on cognitive biases are reviewed and their results analyzed. The main place is taken by the analysis of the speeches of the countries-representatives of the Hispanidad community at the 73 session of the UN General Assembly in order to identify certain types of cognitive distortions (framing, appeal to authority). The signs of "mental traps" are described and their detailed description is given. Discourse strategies are analyzed, including the deliberate use of cognitive biases by speakers.
