The article explores conflict communicative interaction in political discourse. The topic of the article focuses on specific features of a linguistic personality’s conflict behaviour in contemporary British parliamentary debates, drawing Keir Starmer’s speeches as empirical material. The aim of the study is identifying speech conflict cognitive scenarios of a particular linguistic personality, determining the factors governing the choice of pragmatic strategies that implement these scenarios, and describing their linguistic realization. The methodology of the study is based on an integral cognitive-discourse-pragmatic approach, combining the methods of discourse analysis, cognitive scenario theory, and the theory of politeness/impoliteness. The analysis follows a four-step algorithm applied to verified parliamentary debate transcripts featuring Keir Starmer. The study results in identifying three core scenarios: “Blitzkrieg”, “Escalating Conflict”, and “Defence”. Their selection is determined by the institutional status of the speaker, communicative initiative dynamics, and the speaker’s attitude and mental predisposition. The linguistic actualization of these scenarios is achieved through the convergence of epistemic modality, connotative vocabulary units, rhetoric questions, and “us – them” deixis. The findings of the research are applicable to political linguistics and linguistic conflictology. The conclusions confirm that linguistic personality’s conflict behaviour functions as a dynamic rational-aggressive system in which cognitive scenarios and pragmatic strategies mutually determine the choice of linguistic means, thus ensuring maximum communicative effectiveness within the framework of regulated political confrontation.
