‘This Format Turned Each Presentation Into a Collaborative Effort to Assess the Robustness of the Study
On October 16, 2026, HSE ICEF hosted the Eighth International Conference on Applied Economics. Held fully on-site, the conference brought researchers from HSE University, the New Economic School, Wuhan University, and Shandong University together in Moscow. The programme was organised around three overarching themes— ‘Environment, Resources and Policy,’ ‘Migration, Labour, and Communication,’ and ‘Consumption, Behaviour, and Climate—offering an opportunity to see how similar economic mechanisms operate in China, Pakistan, the United States, and Russia.

'Cultural Studies Seeks to Understand What Lies Beneath the Surface of Everyday Things'
Maxim Zhiganov has been exploring different aspects of sound for many years—first in relation to his native Perm and then on a broader, global scale. In this interview for the HSE Young Scientists project, he talks about sound maps, the special issue of the journal Logos, and why it is important to make the familiar less clear and obvious.

Kagan M., / Series Series "arxiv org" 2610.31805 "cond-mat other "arxiv org" 2610.31805". 2026. No. 2610.31805.
Abstract The low-energy plasmonic properties of a free-standing Au (111) monolayer, frequently referred to as goldene, are investigated by time-dependent density functional theory in the random phase approximation. In the evaluation of dielectric and loss functions, the first-principle, band structure characterized by a single s − p energy band at the Fermi level is taken ...

Defining the Right Level of Risk in Organizational Innovation:Factors, Criteria, and Strategic Balance
Alena Bernyukevich, / Series WP BRP "Basic research program". 2025.
This essay explores the complex issue of determining the appropriate level of risk when implementing innovations within organizations. While innovation is widely recognized as a cornerstone of competitiveness, growth, and sustainability, excessive or poorly managed risk can lead to significant challenges. The discussion highlights key factors influencing acceptable risk levels, including alignment with corporate goals, ...

Assessing the impact of economic sanctions on the socio-economic development of a sanctioned country -testing a new research approach using the data on the socio-economic development of Russia in 2022-2025
Gurkov I. B., Kossov V. V., Filinov N. et al., / NRU Higher School of Economics. Series MAN "Management". 2026. No. N/A.
This research note is devoted to assessing the socioeconomic impact of sanctions of sanctioned countries and uses the data on Russia in 2022-2024. We use for the analysis four fundamental socioeconomic parameters-the expected length of life of males at birth, the misery index (Okun's index), the level of Gross Domestic Product at purchasing parity prices, ...

Perovskite nanoparticles Cs4PbBr6 and CsPbBr3: synthesis, analysis and peculiar optical properties
Гущина В. А., / Series chemrxiv-2023-vpzhz-v2 "ChemRxiv". 2023.
All-inorganic perovskite CsPbBr3 and Cs4PbBr6 nanoparticles are being intensively studied due to their unique properties and wide range of applications; however, however, the nature of their optical properties is not yet fully understood due to the difficulty of synthesis of singlephase nanoparticles. In this article we describe the features of the synthesis of single-phase particles ...

Algorithmic overlaps as thermodynamic variables: from local to cluster Monte Carlo dynamics in critical phenomena
Pilé I., Deng Y., Shchur L., / Series arXiv "math". 2026. No. 2604.10254.
We investigate the spatial overlap of successive spin configurations in Markov chain Monte Carlo simulations using the local Metropolis algorithm and the Svendsen-Wang and Wolff cluster algorithms. We examine the dynamics of these algorithms for two models in different universality classes: the Ising model and the Potts model with three components. The overlap of two ...

Meissner D., Salati Marcondes de Moraes G. H., Brandão Fischer B. et al., / NRU Higher School of Economics. Series WP BRP "Science, Technology and Innovation". 2025. No. WP BRP /STI/2025.
Innovation has long been at the center of debates in economics, management, and organizational studies. However, innovation is never free of uncertainty and risk. Every act of innovation implies a departure from established paths and a willingness to embrace the unknown. From the beginning it's never clear if there is an audience which appreciates the ...

Забытая классика: теория империализма Й. А. Шумпетера
Kapeliushnikov R., / Высшая школа экономики. Серия WP3 "Проблемы рынка труда". 2024. № WP3/2024/03.
The paper analyses the little-known essay of one of the classics of economic thought, J. A. Schumpeter (1883–1950), “The Sociology of Imperialisms,” where he appears not as an economic theorist, but as an economic sociologist. The problem of imperialism interested Schumpeter almost throughout his scientific career. His theory was polemically directed against various Marxist interpretations, ...

The history of economic thought knows a few of heated methodological controversies (Methodenstreit), the most famous of which was a “battle” at the end of the 19th century between Austrian and New historical schools on proper methods of social sciences. Later at the turn of the 1930–1940s a dispute arose between J.M. Keynes, on the one ...

A multidimensional approach to the resource allocation problem (RAP) through the prism of industrial information integration (III)
Strimovskaya A., Barykin S., Journal of Industrial Information Integration 2023 Vol. 34 Article 100473
The problem of resource allocation has been studied by applying diversified models and methods. There are efficient approaches to solving this task based on mathematical modeling, experts’ assessment, optimization methods, and others. However, the development of the modern world emphasizes the need of applying a new paradigm to deal with traditional problems. Industrial Informational Integration ...

Searching for the optimal level of employee turnover : A study of a large UK retail organisation
Siebert W. S., Zubanov N., Academy of Management Journal 2009 Vol. 52 No. 2 P. 294–313
We study the relationship between sales assistant turnover and labor productivity in 325 stores of a large U.K. clothing retailer tracked over 1995–99. We find that the turnover-productivity relationship is contingent on type of work system. For a large group of part-timers, managed under a “secondary” work system, the relationship clearly has an inverted U-shape, ...
