HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Experimental investigation of the far-field emission pattern of microdisk laser modes

P. 012094-1–012094-5.
Moiseev E., Kryzhanovskaya N., Maximov M., Zhukov A.

We studied a far-field emission pattern for microlasers with InGaAs/GaAs quantum
well-dots in the active region. Angular-resolved electroluminescence spectra measurement
revealed various far-field patterns depending on current and resonance mode.

High-quality micropillar cavities were grown using molecular-beam epitaxy. Stable continuous-wave lasing at room temperature was demonstrated for microlasers with semiconductor and hybrid output mirrors. At 300 K, single-mode lasing was demonstrated for micropillars with a diameter of 5 um at a wavelength of 960 nm, with a minimum lasing threshold of 1.2 mW and the ...

Electronic band structure vs intrinsic antisite doping in the MBE grown films MnTe.Bi(2-x)Te3(1-x/2) (0 < x < 2): Evidence from spectroscopic ellipsometry and infrared studies
Kovaleva N. N., Chvostova D., Muratov A. V. et al., Applied Physics Letters 2024 Vol. 125 No. 26 Article 262404
The intrinsic antisite defects, which cause doping in the antiferromagnetic topological insulators of the MnTe .n Bi2Te3 (n =1, 2, 3, …,) family, prevent the exploration of the Dirac states affecting the Fermi level (E_F ) position and magnetic properties. In the present study, the MnTe . Bi(2-x)Te3(1-x/2) films grown by the MBE technique onto Si(111) substrates ...

Fingerprints of the Jahn-Teller and superexchange physics in optical spectra of manganites
Kovaleva N. N., Kusmartseva O. E., Kugel K., Journal of Physics: Conference Series 2024 Vol. 2769 Article 012013
Transition metal oxides incorporating Jahn-Teller (JT) ions Mn3+ (3d4) in manganites and Cu2+ (3d9) in cuprates exhibit outstanding magnetic and electronic properties, including colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) and high-temperature superconductivity (HTSC). The physics of these compounds is associated with the orbitally-degenerate electronic states of JT ions, leading to the linear electron-lattice interaction, complemented by the entirely electronic superexchange (SE) interaction. Here, ...

Half-Ring Microlasers Based on InGaAs Quantum Well-Dots with High Material Gain
Fedor Zubov, Moiseev E., Mikhail Maximov et al., Photonics 2023 Vol. 10 No. 3 Article 290
We report on half-ring lasers that are 100–200 um in diameter and are fabricated by cleaving the initial full rings into halves. Characteristics of the half-ring and half-disk lasers fabricated from the same wafer are compared. The active area of the microlasers is based on the quantum heterostructures of mixed (0D/2D) dimensionality, referred to as quantum well-dots with ...

Fedor I. Zubov, Eduard I. Moiseev, Mikhail V. Maximov et al., IEEE Photonics Technology Letters 2022 Vol. 34 No. 24 P. 1349–1352
We report on the fabrication and studies of Ø100 μm half-disk lasers with an active region based on InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots providing very high modal gain. Such resonators support whispering gallery modes propagating at the cavity periphery. The microlasers show directional light outcoupling: continuous-wave output power emitted from the flat side reaches 17 mW, which is about 7 times greater than the ...

Zhukov A., Kryzhanovskaya N., Moiseev E. et al., Физика и техника полупроводников 2020 Т. 54 № 6 С. 570–574
A model is developed that makes it possible to analytically determine the threshold current of a microdisk laser with consideration for its self-heating as a function of the ambient temperature and the microlaser diameter. It is shown that there exists a minimum microdisk diameter determined by self-heating, up to which continuous-wave lasing can be reached ...

Kochiev M. V., Belykh V.V., Sibeldin N. N. et al., Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2019 Vol. 99 P. 035310
We investigate the statistics of microcavity polariton Bose–Einstein condensation by measuring photoluminescence dynamics from a GaAs microcavity excited by single laser excitation pulses. We directly observe fluctuations (jitter) of the polariton condensation onset time and model them using a master equation for the occupancy probabilities. The jitter of the condensation onset time is an inherent ...

Efficient green emission from edge states in graphene perforated by nitrogen plasma treatment
Kovaleva N. N., Chvostova D., Potůčhek Z. et al., 2D Materials 2019 Vol. 6 No. 4 P. 045021-1–045021-10
Plasma functionalization of graphene is one of the facile ways to tune its doping level without the need for wet chemicals making graphene photoluminescent. Microscopic corrugations in the twodimensional structure of bilayer CVD graphene having a quasi-free-suspended top layer, such as graphene ripples, nanodomes, and bubbles, may significantly enhance local reactivity leading to etching effects on exposure to plasma. ...
