Immunity to Chaos: How Personal Resources Help Us Cope with the Challenges of a Turbulent World
International conflicts, crises and digital overload—the modern world puts our minds to the test every day. Traditional psychology often focuses on the consequences: anxiety, depression, and psychosomatic disorders. But what if we looked at the problem differently—through the lens of the resources that prevent us from breaking down? Psychological immunity is precisely this set of resources. Alena Zolotareva and her group, Psychological Immunity as a Resource for Positive Functioning, are developing an integrative model of this phenomenon, adapting diagnostic tools and preparing for large-scale empirical research. Why do psychologists need to collaborate with medical professionals, and how could their research transform preventive care in clinics and corporations?

‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

How Are Inflation Expectations of Enterprises Formed: Survey Results

Studies on Russian Economic Development. 2020. Vol. 31. No. 5. P. 522–532.
Karlova N., Puzanova E., Bogacheva I., Morozov A.

The article presents the results of a survey of manufacturing enterprises conducted to study the nature of inflation expectations of Russian companies. The survey data show a high heterogeneity and weak anchoring of inflation expectations (i.e., their instability in the case of short-term inflation fluctuations), which indicates the continuation of adaptation processes in the Russian economy in the transition to inflation targeting policies. In this situation, an important task for the central bank is to strengthen the impact of monetary policy measures on the process of generating inflation expectations of enterprises.

И., Penikas H. I., / Банк России.

Within the classical macroeconomic paradigm, the key interest rate is considered the primary instrument of monetary policy. Through the transmission mechanism, it influences the cost of borrowing and saving, thereby regulating aggregate demand in the economy. Global interest rates today are highly uneven. This article examines the experiences of leading central banks under conditions of ...

Penikas H. I., Potashev N.,

Implied inflation expectations are the expectation values derived from the question about particular goods’ prices or the values of a basket of goods. We use internal and external surveys to compare implied and direct (conventional) estimates when the single inflation range is chosen in the latter case. By checking against the known stylized facts about inflation expectations, we compare all the combinations of question about them. We find that implied perceived inflation and inflation expectations are higher than their direct peers. ...

The impact of income and inflation expectations on consumption: Evidence from a laboratory experiment
Afanasev K., The Journal of the New Economic Association 2025 No. 3(68) P. 43–51
This study examines moderating effect of income expectations on the influence of inflation expectations on consumption decisions in a laboratory setting. Using a multi-round life-cycle consumption-saving model, the research manipulates participants’ beliefs on the future prices and income. Contrary to the hypothesis that expected income growth would attenuate the effect of expected price increases on ...

А., Кулешов Ф., Penikas H. I. et al., / Банк России. № 146.
Many academic studies uncover systemic differences in the inflation expectations for heterogenous groups of population. Financial literacy might be one of determinants for such differences, in Russia also (Andreev et al., 2024). Our study confirms this fact by expanding the data window from one year used in (Andreev et al., 2024) to three years. Moreover, we find that more financially literate respondents have lower inflation expectations. For the purpose of our research, we consolidate data from the two sources – ...

The Forward Guidance Puzzle and Anchored Inflation Expectations
Drobysheva A., Merzlyakov S., Ekonomicheskaya Politika 2024 Vol. 19 No. 6 P. 6–25
In recent years, central banks have turned to forward guidance as a key tool of monetary policy. However, standard DSGE models overestimate the impact of forward guidance on the economy, a phenomenon known as the “forward guidance puzzle.” In the model employed, the reaction of firms to a central bank’s announcements depends on the degree ...

Avakyan A., Kuznetsova O.,
Many central banks consider the change of the approach to the monetary policy. One of the options is average inflation targeting. Under rational expectations this policy leads to a tangible increase in social welfare. In this paper, we demonstrate that in the case of adaptive expectations, on the contrary, it is more likely to lead ...

Pak Y., Pekarski S. E.,
Financial repression refers to the distorting effect of certain government policies on the operation of the financial sector. Several empirical studies of financial repression point out that financial repression retards economic growth by decreasing investment activity in the economy, but the impact of financial repression on inflationary processes has not been adequately studied. This paper ...
