Dynamic Multiplexing of URLLC Traffic and eMBB Traffic in an Uplink Using Nonorthogonal Multiple Access
Journal of Communications Technology and Electronics. 2020. Vol. 65. No. 6. P. 750–755.
The problem of uplink multiplexing of two different types of traffic specific to 5G networks (enhanced Mobile Broadband traffic (eMBB) and Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC)) is considered. A dynamic multiplexing scheme based on the use of the nonorthogonal multiple access is proposed. An analytical model is developed to estimate the network performance using the proposed scheme, as well as to select its optimal parameters in order to maximize the network capacity for eMBB traffic while fulfilling the quality of service requirements for URLLC traffic.

Modern communication networks shall support mission-critical and real-time applications that demand high data rates, low latency, and ultra-high reliability, which is known as Ultra-reliable Low-latency Communications (URLLC). In URLLC systems, the effective capacity, i.e., the maximum traffic rate at which latency and reliability constraints are satisfied, is a key metric for resource management. Its estimations ...

A key feature of 5G systems is the Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC), which can be used for remote surgery, smart grids, industrial control, etc. URLLC requires millisecond-level delays and very high reliability, i.e., less than 10−5 packet loss probability. The ability to satisfy these very strict quality of service requirements depends on selecting the Modulation and Coding ...

Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC) is a new type of service supported in 5G systems, which imposes very strict requirements on packet delivery time and reliability. Many URLLC applications generate sporadic traffic in the uplink. To satisfy strict URLLC requirements for such a type of traffic, a 5G base station can use the Grant-Free channel access ...

Network slicing is a technique to enable multi-tenant operation in future 5G systems. Efficient implementation of slicing at the air interface requires comprehensive optimization algorithms characterized by high execution complexity. To address this issue in the paper, we first present a priority-based mechanism enabling performance isolation between slices competing for resources. Then, to speed up ...

5G cellular systems provide a new service called Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC). In many URLLC scenarios, e.g., in intelligent transport systems, users move at high speed and transmit data in the uplink. The base station shall assign transmission parameters that satisfy the strict quality of service requirements of URLLC applications and consume the least amount ...

Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC) is a key service of 5G systems that imposes very strict Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. Typically, URLLC applications require successful delivery of at least 99.999% of packets with a packet delivery time below 1 ms. To satisfy these requirements for uplink URLLC traffic, 5G specifications introduce a grant-free channel access method. ...

To achieve high gains from multiple antennas in 5G systems, the base station (gNB) constructs precoders using channel measurements obtained based on pilot signals. For high user mobility, the measurements quickly become outdated, which is especially crucial for ultra-reliable low latency communications (URLLC) traffic because it increases channel resource consumption to provide highly reliable transmissions ...
