The purpose of the article is to determine the nature of the challenges for the development of Russia in conditions of partial destruction of the traditional architecture and institutional structure of the globalization system. Transformations in the system of international political and economic relations associated with the inhibition of globalization and the beginning of the processes of regionalization of the world economy on the background of increasing aggression in the struggle for dominance in key moments of global politics and economics. The key and potentially most acute transformational process is the regionalization of the global economy, which is expressed in the formation of regional economic, and, in the future, political systems that form their own “spaces of involvement”. As a result of the audit, the system of relations developed along the lines of “postindustrial metropolis” –  “industrial semi-periphery” –  “resource periphery”, which creates the conditions for competition for control over space, is revised, and geopolitical transformations also aggravate competition between national states and network structures. As a result, such development of the situation puts Russia in need of revising many key approaches in its strategy for developing statehood and confronting the emerging risks with the country's stable and sustainable development. In the system of global political and economic relations, an effect of spatial and substantial hybridity of challenges arises, which in some cases acquires an extremely acute character, including the need to compete for influence in the space of post-Soviet Eurasia.
