‘The Peak of Stupidity and ‘The Valley of Despair: HSE Economists Propose an Explanation for the Dunning–Kruger Effect
The Dunning–Kruger effect, which describes a sharp surge in self-confidence among beginners followed by an equally rapid decline as they gain experience, can be explained by the nature of the learning process and the acquisition of new knowledge. This conclusion was reached by Andrey Vorchik of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences together with independent researcher Murat Mamyshev. They developed a mathematical model of learning and demonstrated how subjective confidence is formed and changes as knowledge accumulates, as well as how teachers can reduce the ‘valley of despair’ experienced by learners.

A control strategy for monitoring unknown flood regions by multiple UAVs
Song J., Bai Y., Svinin M. et al., Artificial Life and Robotics 2026 Vol. 31 No. 2 P. 365–377
This study introduces an innovative control approach for deploying multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to monitor an unknown food region. The proposed strategy is designed to optimally distribute UAVs across the food-afected area while cooperatively estimating the extent of inundation. To achieve this, an adaptive coverage controller is developed based on Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation (CVT), incorporating a novel ...

Forecasting and analyzing the volatility of financial instruments is one of the fundamental tasks in stock market operations. The literature most often employs linear models for predicting market volatility. However, this tool may not be the most suitable for the stated objective, as the market is inherently non-constant, with its volatility exhibiting distinct periods of ...

Epistemic Mathematical Models for Analyzing Meta-opinions on Social Networks
Fedyanin D., , in: 17th International Conference, SCSM 2025, Held as Part of the 27th HCI International Conference, HCII 2025, Gothenburg, Sweden, June 22–27, 2025, Proceedings, Part II. Social Computing and Social Media. LNCS, volume 15787Vol. 2.: Switzerland: Springer, 2025. P. 247–256.
The paper proposes a formal model for describing opinions and higher-order opinions (e.g., opinions about opinions) using classical epistemic logic, such as the Kripke structure. Traditionally employed for analyzing knowledge and beliefs, this model is adapted to interpret opinions as beliefs, which is particularly promising for describing human-computer interaction due to its high level of formalization. The study is ...

In modern times, stochastic large-scale multi-agent systems (MAS) aimed at supporting socio-economic planning are being developed. There is a well known problem of a high computational complexity task of an optimal control for multiple agents’ behaviour in models of random interactions. In particular, agents (such as sellers and buyers) should make individualised decisions on establishing ...

Evaluating Structural Complexity of Workflow Nets Modeling Asynchronous Agent Interactions
Е. Zemlyanoy, R. Nesterov, Proceedings of the Institute for System Programming of the RAS 2025 Vol. 37 No. 4-2 P. 47–68
The structure of a process model discovered from an event log of a multi-agent system often does not reflect the system architecture with respect to agent interactions. The existing conformance checking quality dimensions mainly evaluate the extent to which the behavior a discovered model corresponds to event sequences recorded in an event log. These behavioral ...

A. A. Sherstyugina, R. A. Nesterov, Proceedings of the Institute for System Programming of the RAS 2023 Vol. 35 No. 3 P. 11–32
The structure of a process model directly discovered from an event log of a multi-agent system often does not reflect the behavior of individual agents and their interactions. We suggest analyzing the relations between events in an event log to localize actions executed by different agents and involved in their asynchronous interaction. Then, a process ...

Federated Learning Strategies Over Wireless Channels
Ali A., , in: 22nd International Conference, NEW2AN 2022, Tashkent, Uzbekistan, December 15–16, 2022, Proceedings. Internet of Things, Smart Spaces, and Next Generation Networks and Systems. LNCS, volume 13772Issue 13772.: Springer, 2023. P. 525–533.
Machine learning over distributed data collected by many clients has important applications in use cases where data privacy is a key concern or central data storage is not an option. Federated learning has introduced solutions for these scenarios, unlike the client-server approach, where all the training data is centralized in the server side, the clients, in a federated ...

On the Construction of Regularized Equations of Motion for a Mixture of Viscous Incompressible Fluids
Zlotnik A.A., Doklady Mathematics 2022 Vol. 106 No. 2 P. 380–385
A regularization of two types and aggregation are performed for the system of equations of motion for a multivelocity mixture of viscous incompressible fluids, and new multivelocity and single-velocity systems are constructed. For all of them, elliptic equations for the pressure and dissipative balance equations for the total energy of the mixture (the sum of its kinetic ...

Application of the Modified Method of S-Approximations within the Framework of the Structural-Parametric Approach for the Construction of Regional Analytical Models of the Magnetic Field of Mars
Salnikov A., Stepanova I., Gudkova T. et al., , in: 2021 14th International Conference Management of large-scale system development (MLSD).: IEEE, 2021. P. 1–3.
We have constructed an analytical model of the magnetic field over a region of the Martian surface using satellite raw data and S-approximations within the modified structural-parametric approach. The method mentioned above implies considering the environment features as a function included in an integral. We approximated the anomalous field by the sum of simple and ...
