The article deals with the problems of political representation and its formation in the USA of the time of D. Tramp's presidency, and also the role of American intellectuals in this process. Based on the analysis of the materials of the key Internet sites where discussions and confrontation between intellectuals of the liberal and right wing happen, the author of this scientific research reveals that the representation of the US president is built in two vectors, sustained in the spirit of binary modernist oppositions: absolute concepts of (political) evil and good, insignificance and valor. As a result of public opinion, the figure of the president appears in the form of a kind of political Chimera, a character with interrelated properties, in which it is impossible to fix the political unity of the people. The key questions of the article are: why do public intellectuals of the United States form the political representation of President Trump, fundamentally oppositional in their meaning and content? How much in these representations the political unity of the people is expressed? What are US citizens actually waiting for, whether they will be able to breathe new life into their old ideals, to gain a clear understanding of their goals and to overcome the dangerous "Fourth Turn" of American history, or the chimerical dream will end in insanity, intellectuals are unlikely to tell. But they can and should adequately help to understand the events that have occurred.
