Scientists Create Open Dataset for Studying Concentration
A team of Russian researchers, including scientists from HSE University–St Petersburg, has developed the first open multimodal dataset containing recordings of brain activity, heart function, and video observations to help researchers understand what happens in the human brain during deep concentration. In the future, the dataset could accelerate the development of neural interfaces, rehabilitation technologies, and AI systems. The article has been published in Scientific Data.

‘Science Is Universal-It Knows No Borders
Fuad Aleskerov, Tenured Professor and Director of the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis at HSE University, together with his colleagues, has developed methods of network analysis in bibliometrics that have made it possible to identify patterns in the appearance and citation of publications in academic journals, as well as their influence on each other. When one or a number of studies are frequently cited by a wide range of journals, this is an indicator that the research is of high quality. By contrast, extensive cross-citation within a limited group of journals increases the likelihood of identifying a network of predatory publications.

Scientists Propose Method for More Efficient Resource Use in Machine Learning
An international group of researchers, including mathematicians from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, has provided a theoretical justification for a simple and computationally efficient method of estimating uncertainty in Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD). The paper has been published on the scientific preprint server arXiv.org and presented at AISTATS 2026.

Parkinson’s Disease: Network Analysis of Patents and Publications’ Activity

P. 430–432.
Aleskerov F. T., Бульдяев А. В., Хуторская О. Е., Ямилов А. И.
The models of network analysis of patent and publications on various aspects of Parkinson's disease are presented. The results obtained allow to reveal the links between research clusters, rank its importance, and track changes scientific groups attention to, for instance, previously unknown patents and developments.

Parkinson’s disease is one of the most common neurodegenerative pathologies manifested by progressive motor and cognitiveaffective disorders. In the context of global population aging, the prevalence of pathology continues to grow steadily, which creates a significant medical and social burden on health care systems and determines the relevance of the search for new therapeutic approaches. As an ...

The mirror neuron system is a fundamental brain system of the brain that provides the ability to understand the actions of others and plays a key role in motor learning and empathy. In this review, we have thoroughly examined the internal and external factors that influence the functioning of the mirror neuron system. Issues such ...

Network analysis of publications on studies of Parkinson Disease
Aleskerov F. T., Khutorskaya O., Yakuba V. I. et al., Procedia Computer Science 2023 Vol. 219 P. 1380–1387
More than 10 million people worldwide are suffering from Parkinson Disease (PD). We analyse publications on studies of PD over the period from 2015 to 2021. We have collected about 70 thousand papers from 4912 different journals. After the data preprocessing 39811 publications and 3292 journals are left. Methods of centrality analysis have been applied to ...

Whole-exome sequencing in searching for new variants associated with the development of Parkinson’s disease
Shulskaya M. V., Alieva A. K., Vlasov, I. N. et al., Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience 2018 Vol. 10 Article 136
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a complex disease with its monogenic forms accounting for less than 10% of all cases. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) technology has been used successfully to find mutations in large families. However, because of the late onset of the disease, only small families and unrelated patients are usually available. WES conducted in such ...

Bach1 derepression is neuroprotective in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease
Ahuja M., Ammal Kaidery N., Attucks O. et al., Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America 2021 Vol. 118 No. 45 Article e2111643118
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative movement disorder characterized by the loss of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons. Mounting evidence suggests that Nrf2 is a promising target for neuroprotective interventions in PD. However, electrophilic chemical properties of the canonical Nrf2-based drugs cause irreversible alkylation of cysteine residues on cellular proteins resulting in side effects. Bach1 is ...

Нейропсихические симптомы болезни Паркинсона на немоторной стадии
Ragimova A., Самушия М. А., Иволгин А. Ф. et al., Кремлевская медицина. Клинический вестник 2019 № 4 С. 45–56
Neuropsychiatric symptoms of Parkinson's disease are some of the factors determining the patient's quality of life, but often remain underestimated by clinicians, especially in the prodromal stage, when affective symptoms can be assessed without regard to the neurological disease. Objective: to study the clinical characteristics of affective disorders and their comorbid pathological characteristics, manifesting in ...

Самушия М. А., Ragimova A., Смоленцева И. Г. et al., Кремлевская медицина. Клинический вестник 2019 № 4 С. 160–167
Affective disorders are a common non-motor manifestation of Parkinson's disease (PD), which determines the quality of life, compliance with treatment and prognosis. According to the literature, the prevalence of bipolar affective disorder before the onset of PD is 6%. The article describes the case of a patient with bipolar affective disorder before the onset of ...

VCP expression decrease as a biomarker of preclinical and early clinical stages of Parkinson’s disease
Alieva A., Rudenok M., Filatova E. et al., Scientific Reports 2020 Vol. 10 Article 827
Valosin-containing human protein (VCP) or p97 performs enzyme functions associated with the maintenance of protein homeostasis and control of protein quality. Disruption of its normal functioning might be associated with the development of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Tissues of mice with toxininduced presymptomatic and early symptomatic stages of PD, as well as 52 treated and untreated ...
